I usually love IHG hotels but I wouldn’t stay here again. It says on the website that there is construction is going on, that was originally fine with me as I was only staying for one night. Then you actually drive into the hotel where you are greeted by a gravel road with unknown objects in the road which can mess up your tires if not careful. And if you make a wrong turn you end up in even more gravel.
Now onto the room, for some reason in order to turn on the bathroom light, you have to turn on the light near the door which I found weird. The tile in the shower was also peeling which made it look unclean. There was also mold/dirt and grime or something of the sort also growing in the shower which when the water hit it while taking a shower it flushed out which was pretty disgusting. The refrigerator was also pretty dirty with leftover items inside. Aside from those things at least the bed was nice. Overall I wouldn’t stay here again and I was better off going to one of the express hotels.

If you’re considering staying at Holiday Inn Detroit Livonia, save yourself the headache and book literally anywhere else. My stay was a masterclass in how a hotel can fail its guests on every level.
Filthy rooms: Housekeeping was practically nonexistent. Sheets weren’t changed, trash piled up, and vacuuming never happened. Even basic items like coffee cups had to be begged for at the front desk.
Broken amenities: The jacuzzi was out of order, the pool was freezing, and the so-called “fitness center” was a joke. Paying guests deserve functioning facilities, not excuses.
Nickel-and-diming: Breakfast wasn’t included—despite the inflated room rates—and cost $10 per person. At this price point, charging for a mediocre breakfast is insulting.
Unresponsive staff: Polite words don’t make up for zero follow-through. Requests were ignored, problems went unresolved, and management seemed indifferent to guest concerns.
No bath soap provided: The most basic expectation of a hotel stay—soap—was missing. Guests shouldn’t have to chase staff for essentials.
Broken refrigerator: Food and drinks spoiled because the in-room fridge didn’t work. Another example of neglect and lack of maintenance.
Clogged shower drain: Standing ankle-deep in dirty water while showering is unacceptable. Maintenance clearly isn’t a priority here.
No parking spaces: Because of nearby construction, guests were told to park at an office lot and walk across huge gravel rocks. This is unsafe and completely unacceptable.
Hazardous entry roads: Roads leading into the property were gravel, littered with construction equipment, and even nails. Guests shouldn’t have to risk flat tires or injuries just to reach the hotel.
Zero value: For the money spent, the experience was closer to a budget roadside motel than a branded hotel. Comfort and convenience were nowhere to be found.
This property hides behind the Holiday Inn name but delivers none of the standards you’d expect from IHG. It’s clear that management has chosen cost-cutting over guest satisfaction, and the result is a hotel that feels neglected, broken, and hostile to travelers.
I travel often, and I’ve stayed in dozens of hotels across the country. This was one of the worst experiences I’ve had in years. If you value cleanliness, working amenities, and even a shred of accountability, do not book here!!

Front desk took the time to read my preferences on my IHG profile and crushed it on my room location. Thanks for the attention to detail.

$10 for breakfast buffet, small shampoo/conditioner, cannot request no room service at front desk- need to leave sign on door, and construction to property is awful. Sign on roadway not visible and easy to miss at night.
Holiday inn express has free breakfast, full sized shower amenities, and you can request with the front desk to not have room service enter your room during your stay.
