I have travel then entire country for a decade for my job. I have stayed at many dozen Holiday Inns. I have probably left 2 or 3 reviews in my lifetime.
At Check-in I was informed there is a $5.00 “parking fee” which seems like nothing but exploitation and greed. This is not in a busy downtown area or a lot that would be used for anything but staying at the hotel. $140/night but they need to make sure they snag an extra $5 from everyone that decides to stay there.
The “mini-mart” was embarrassingly empty. One lone mini pizza in the freezer. A few random bags of chips and a handful of candy bars.
My room was mostly clean. But it appeared that whoever did the cleaning was in a rush and that never inspires confidence in the room actually being clean. The shower grate wasn’t in place. The shower itself seemed dirty. There was hair in the hand towel. Bed was haphazardly made.
Front desk was not welcoming at all and maybe said three words.
Individually, none of it is that big of a deal. But all together, it is obvious this is a poorly managed hotel. The extra $5 parking fee was the icing on the cake. $5 isn’t significant. It is the principle. It feels like a very slimey practice and a slap in the face to customers.
If I didn’t check-in at 11:30pm I would have turned around and booked a different hotel over the parking fee. I will never be staying here or at any of the owners hotels ever again.

One of the worst places I have ever stayed at customer service is terrible manager. Terrible doesn’t seem like she know what she’s doing. Pool is out of service room cost too much and we can’t use the pool around the kitchen area. It smell like sewage..

We have stayed at this property previously. The stay was as expected. However, our most recent stay was unacceptable. We came to Kalamazoo to visit our son at the university. After going to a hockey game and dinner, we returned to our hotel at 11:30 pm. We planned on getting up early and returning home. Unfortunately, we could not get some sleep because the blinds would close. The hallway lights in the room did not work. There were small pieces of broken glass embedded in the carpet.
The night staff was woefully incapable of dealing with the issue. There was no night maintenance on staff. The night staff told us there were no available rooms for us to move to. Then, when we pressed the issue, we were told that they could have a room cleaned. We were then told that there was no house keeping staff available to clean a room. They could not even arrange to comp the existing room. The best we were offered is food from the mini-store in the lobby. I finally was able to get them to provide some sheets to hang in front of the window in place of blinds. At $160 per night, I should be able to close the blinds.

These are good people! Very welcoming and helpful. This one is good for business and everyday travels or longer stays. The front desk employees have always been the UTMOST supportive and helpful! Owner is a very genuine person and is good to the employees and customers. Would definitely recommend these two hotels over most any in the Kalamazoo area!
