The valet and front desk staff were very polite and professional. The location was perfect for our new years event in downtown Grand Rapids. The only problems I had were being double charged for valet and charged $90 for miscellaneous fees. They did not return my incidental costs and we didn't use anything in the room. The floors were heavily stained, the shower drain didn't work, and they allowed other guests to behave dangerously. There were also several areas that smelled of urine. Maybe they were understaffed for the holidays but I was charged more than $200 over what was discussed during booking over the phone.

The staff at this hotel are the standouts. The room was fine, nothing to write home about. Our king bed room was rather small but was functional. We weren't quite high enough to have a great view but oh well. But the front desk staff, valet team, and housekeeping were all very polite, professional, and helpful. The location is great. The shops and restaurants in or close to the hotel are great. We enjoyed The Kitchen.

One of the worst experiences I have ever had at a hotel. The positives: Public spaces at the Amway were beautifully decorated for the holidays. The Lumber Baron bar is a gem. Folks at the front desk were friendly and efficient. The problem: Room was on the 7th floor on the Pantlind side. The space was shabby and could have passed for a roadside motel were it not for the high-end price. Thin walls, scratchy threadbare sheets, deflated pillows. Industrial-style toilet from the 1960s. Could hear everything going on outside the room from every direction. Noise level prevented any sleep. Fled the hotel just after 1:00 a.m. Given the storied reputation of the Amway Grand, was expecting much much more.

The shower in my room wouldnt get hot barely lukewarm. The pool was overrun with loud splashing children which the attendent found less interesting than his phone. A horrible experience for the price I would of been better of at a holiday Inn

I really don't like leaving bad reviews but this was horrible. We were put in a room that didn't match the description or pictures on the booking we selected. The room was the smallest room we've ever been in. There was a washcloth under our covers at the foot of the bed and the drain to the tub was pulled out. Key cards wouldn't scan right away so we had to sit there and wave it for 30 seconds to get it to work. We were there for a work Christmas party and they told me I couldn't get my parking validated. Come to find out, it was offered to every employee and I was charged $41 for absolutely no reason at all. Pretty disappointed. Only stay here if you want to pay a lot for absolutely nothing.
