  We spent a weekend here for a hockey tournament. I was unaware that all the rooms are motel style. The exterior doors lead to outside. Our heater in our room was either full blast 90 degrees or you had to turn it completely off and freeze. The room needs a major deep cleaning. There was also a huge gap between the door and the floor letting light and outside air in. We went with a large group of people and were kicked out of the pool area for having beverages. When asked if we could go somewhere else, we were told no. They close off the area in the lobby where they serve food. So you have no where to go but your rooms. It was a really weird setup. On top of that the lobby smelled badly of shrimp every time we went there. The plus was it was a great location. I'm sure the view of the river is great in the summer too.

  The location of this hotel is great! Nice view of the river and very close to anything you could need. But, the place needs a HUGE cleaning. The lobby area was clean but our room was gross. If it hadn't been so late and we weren't so tired, we would have asked for another room. We always check for bugs after a bad experience in Florida so we take off the sheets and check the bed every time. The zipped mattress cover under the sheet was horribly stained on the side. I'm not sure if it was some type of body fluids or blood stains from previous bugs but it was nasty. My husband ended up throwing the sheets and bed covers over it on his side to sleep there. The bed skirt had dried on something that was unrecognizable. Then the floor especially near the night stands and behind the bed was FILTHY. The bathroom floor corners were the same way. I had planned on letting someone know about it when we checked out but there was no one in sight in the office and they had a clear box for the keys on the counter. I would really love to visit that area again but unless this place is cleaned up, we would have a hard time returning to this hotel. For reference it was room 114. I wish I had taken pictures. It really needs deep cleaning.

  Reminder … This is a two star hotel and it is among the best two star hotels we’ve stayed in. This was our second visit. River views are nice. Rooms are large. Baths are tiny. Very clean and tidy with helpful staff. Had a couple of annoying flying bugs that were NOT bed bugs or drain flies. Is not within walking distance to downtown but pretty convenient location. It’s our go to hotel in Cheboygan.
