Housekeeping needs to pay attention a bit closer to the details. Twice in a row we have found items under beds, corner of the rooom under curtains, and a dirty toilet this time around.

The Hotel Earl at Charlevoix was a pleasant surprise. We had a few days off and wanted to look for Petoskey and Charlevoix stones on the shores of Lake Michigan.
We were there off season so we weren’t sure what to expect. The hotel was so comfortable and inviting. The staff were friendly and helpful. The lobby and the rest of the hotel were well appointed with a fireplace and nice seating.
The hotel was running a promotion for a food and beverage coupon (along with a slightly reduced price) and we took advantage of it in the “Lo Bar” - the lobby bar, which is a nice alternative to rooftop “Hi Bar” (only open in warmer weather).
The hotel offers a very nice included breakfast which consisted of fresh pastries, bagels, boiled eggs, make your own waffles, instant cut oatmeal, juices and a very nice artisan-type coffee machine. This machine is available at all times and was truly a nice amenity of the hotel.
From the nicely decorated hallways to the large, clean room, we were pleased with the aesthetic of the hotel. There were little touches - a room refrigerator, a decent coffee machine, motion activated under lighting in the bathroom, a stylized telephone and nice toiletries (Beekman 1802) that made the stay pleasant. We even had a white noise machine in the room. About that - we didn’t feel we needed it but we had a room at the front of the hotel facing the street. In busy tourist season, you might want to book a room on the non-street side of the hotel because we could hear the traffic. The bed was comfortable for me. My husband felt it was a tiny bit too soft, preferring a harder mattress for his back.
Finally, free parking was another budget-friendly perk.
We have so many good things to say about the hotel. I’m sure we’ll be back. As to that beach “rockhounding”, we found plenty of exactly what we were seeking!

Folks I can't say enough about this very hospitable hotel. All the way down to clean rooms, and the best check in host in the world! 😁. Very centrally located for walking to fine shopping downtown.

Had a great time at Hotel Earl! We were here for a wedding at Castle Farms. The rooms are updated with lovely decor. We were also able to bring our dog which always deserves 5 stars!! The bar and lounge area in the lobby were very inviting and a joy to hangout in after a chilly walk around town. There are many stores and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Check out the Happy Troll and Smoke on the Water!! We can't wait to come back when the weather is warmer to experience the Hi Bar

We had a fantastic time on our short anniversary getaway- such a beautiful one bedroom suite with balcony- and the floor to ceiling windows on 2 sides of the corner bedroom were incredible!
Loved the hot tub on a chilly fall night, and the lobby with the cozy fireplace was so welcoming. Will definitely be back!
