When we arrived at this hotel, we were impressed. The rooms are large and - in terms of the actual floorplan - seemed well-designed. Doorways are wide enough for wheelchairs and guests using crutches or walkers... or, in our case, a husband carrying a large suitcase in each hand.
The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was spacious, and - if we waited long enough - the water in the shower was nice and hot.
I liked the breakfast buffet; my husband was less satisfied with it, finding it too spicy.
After our first night, I expected to give this hotel five stars, rating it comparable to some of our favorite Hilton hotels.
The problems emerged on our second night, when the lack of soundproofing between the rooms was a problem. We could hear most of the conversations on either side of our room, and clearly heard the TV shows they watched. (The loud overhead footsteps wouldn't have been an issue if the walls had been better soundproofed. But, in context, this was disappointing as well.)
On our third day, rooms on either side of us were occupied by what sounded like unsupervised daycare groups. Small children - probably around ages 4 - 7 - were playing in the hall, shouting, and slamming the hotel room doors... over and over again. (The doors in this hotel make more noise than we've heard in any other hotel, by a factor of 3x, at least. My husband theorized that this was to create a tight seal, in case anyone in the hallway was smoking.)
I went out to the hallway and asked the children to stop slamming the doors.
They were quiet after that... until about two or three minutes after I returned to our room.
Then the shouting and door-slamming resumed. So, I went back out to the hall, this time shouting (to be heard) that the children should stop slamming the doors.
In fact, I shouted loud enough that I was pretty sure anyone supervising the children - and in the lobby, including the front desk - could hear me. (But, they must also have heard the shouting children and slamming doors.)
The children seemed to go back to their rooms and soon resumed playing - loudly - there. With the lack of soundproofing between the rooms, it's as if they were in our room.
As a parent myself, I didn't feel it was fair to ask the children to play more quietly.
The din continued for much of the afternoon, except for a couple of blissful hours around dinnertime.
And then the loud playing and shouting resumed, mostly (but not entirely) inside the rooms on either side of us... accompanied by regular shouting and lecturing by at least a couple of adults.
And this continued past 10 PM, when - with earplugs - I was able to get some sleep.
I regret not complaining at the front desk, but I feel as if the bigger issue was the poor soundproofing between the rooms, and overhead.
That's too bad, because - as I said - the floorplan was one of the best we've seen in a mid-range hotel or motel.
Also, the staff - especially the kitchen, housekeeping, and front desk staff - seemed cheerful and pleasant.
For us, the last straw was at about 10:40 AM on the final day of our say, when we started taking our luggage out to our car. (Checkout was 11 AM.) We were unable to get back into our room for the rest of our belongings, because our keys had already been deactivated.
My husband went to the front desk and the very helpful person working there reactivated his key card. So, he was able to retrieve the rest of our luggage.
But then, when he returned to do a quick visual check of the room, in case anything had been left behind... he was locked out, yet again. And it still wasn't 11 AM.
Apparently, the person who reactivated his card the second time, said that this had happened before.
I'm giving this hotel two stars because the floorplan was excellent and the staff were welcoming and friendly.
