I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in La Plata Md. 19 Feb. to 21 Feb. There were so many problems with this place I don't know where to begin. The money we spent to stay here was way too much. I have stayed in Holiday Inn Express hotels in the past and all over the world. I have enjoyed my stays at each one. This was a huge disappointment and the money was WAY too much for what we experienced. First - Location: It is in a dangerous area. I spent the daytime hours away but when I returned at night, the things I saw in the surrounding area had me rushing my child in the front door of the hotel. Second - Deceitful Marketing: I chose that hotel because of the pool. The IHG app had an amazing picture of the swimming pool. That pool is why I chose to stay there over a few other hotels in the area. As we arrived on site, the first thing we saw at reception was a sign that says the pool is inop. indefinitely. BUT, the price per night didn't change. Third - Room and Hotel Condition: "Out of Order" signs on the lobby restrooms but NOBODY was working on them. Laziness on the part of the hotel staff? I'm thinking that is most likely the issue. -Both nights as we entered the third floor on the way to our room, the hallway REEKED of marijuana, extremely strong smells coming from the rooms near the elevator. I am a government employee and cannot afford to have anything in my urine as a result of hotel negligence. If I had a urine test and anything was found, in or outside legal limits, I would lose my job. I would sue the mess out of IHG if that happened. Luckily I didn't have to take a test but if ANYONE else gets caught up in that situation, I promise they will take legal action. You may not care about drugs in your hotels but it really affects people. - Room service did not clean our room. When we came back to our room at the end of the day we walked into a stack of towels sitting on the ledge right inside our room, dirty bathroom, unmade beds, unemptied trash, etc. I could go on. - The bathroom had chipped paint, a huge spot on the wall, a dirty bathtub, a dirty bathtub curtain and unclean toilet. - In my frustration with the lack of care from the housekeepers, I looked up at the ceiling and shook my head just to notice black marks all over the ceiling that looked like mold. Fourth - Breakfast: Paper plates, plastic forks and knives and plastic cups. The food was cooked in microwaves or in an oven and completely underdone. Fifth - Staff: Unbelievably rude and unprofessional. The only person who greeted us was the receptionist the night we checked in. We said hello to staff at breakfast, they just looked at us like they hated our presence. Even the receptionists the remaining time we were there uninterested. Hospitality? There was none. This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. The hotel was filled with sketchy clientele which would explain your drug problem. I will never stay there again and others should be warned to stay away as well. I have done that in a recent review and will continue to warn people. This hotel is not ideal for people who work. One bad urinalysis, coming back from a hard day just to endure combative, lazy staff and a hotel with nothing but issues is not ideal. I truly encourage someone of a higher level to look into this. I gave two stars because the GM reached out and apologized as well as reimbursed us but my concern is nothing changed at the hotel.

No coffee available now for 2 nights in a row. I was told she , the worker, could not go into the kitchen. What if there was an emergency? She could not get into the kitchen...hmm. I bet the fire department and OSHA would not like that.

We traveled from TX 11/26/25-11/28/25 to spend Thanksgiving for 2 days with our entire MD Family, and stayed in room 411. All Staff were friendly, the hotel was beautiful and very clean, the room was spacious/felt comfortable, and breakfast was delicious. The sweet lady in charge of breakfast kept everything so clean, well stocked, hot, and fresh. We do not like to complain but as paying patrons of a very nice Hotel that we spend a good penny on, we have to voice our concern in which we would like to be contacted by Management. Our room had a door which could have led to an adjoining room, but was not used because we did not have any other Friends or Family traveling with us. During the first night (11/26/2025), my Family went to bed at 10 PM. Right after midnight, we were rudely awakened by the guests in the adjoining room, 409. They were talking extremely well, kept hearing either banging on the walls or bumping into the walls, and the TV was extremely loud to the point we could hear the muffled noise, as well as vibration on the walls. It almost sounded like they were right outside our room or in the hallway, which could have been possible but we did not open the door for safety reasons. We let it go on for a while, but my Husband called the front desk. He spoke to Collin who said he would be up to take care of the situation. My entire Family was awakened to include my 5 year old Granddaughter. We heard the knock on the door when they went to speak to them, they got quiet for about 15 minutes then started again for a while. My Family eventually fell back to sleep but unfortunately with my insomnia, being a light sleeper, and unable to sleep during the day or during any traveling, I could not. I got less than 2 h ours of sleep and that never happens, I normally average 6-8 hours in which I need to function well. The sad part about it is I was extremely tired on Thanksgiving and so was my Family due to the amount of hours of uninterrupted sleep. This behavior should not happen in a nice Hotel such as this, nor on any Hotel where people pay to stay. We are planning on returning for 5 days to spend with our MD Family in March and would have liked to stay at this same Hotel, but are going to choose a different one due to the worry of this happening again. Sleep is necessary and I Pray nobody else suffers like this, I literally tossed and turned. Our 2nd night (11/27/25) was lovely, peaceful, and quiet. We would like to thank the Staff for all the hard work they do. Respectfully, Simon & Tricia Corbin

Where to begin? ~Deep in thought~ I arrived around 1pm with the faint illusion of an early check-in. Hoping to steal a cheeky 2 hours from the ‘IHG man’ only to be foiled by the front desk receptionist who very curtly responded to my polite request with “Check in is at 3pm. None of the rooms are clean yet. I’m sorry.” I was heartbroken, destitute. How could she rebuff me without even pretending to clack away at the keyboard?? I took my defeat with grace and headed down the street to grab coffee from a local joint (review to be included separately). Arriving later, adequately caffeinated, and not a second past 3pm to make full use of my stay I was greeted by a different front desk receptionist. She had everything ready to go. Like clockwork. Friendly, efficient, she meant business. The room was clean, spacious, and had all the standard hotel accoutrements. Nice Dove products in the bathroom which I made sure to use superrr hard in a vain attempt to avenge my stolen early check-in. TV was setup perfectly for watching college football late into the night while I dozed off on a comfy bed that could use FLUFFIER pillows (hint hint). Overall a very decent experience. The hotel itself stayed pretty busy throughout the evening and the breakfast options in the morning were stellar. They have a bean-to-cup machine which will always bring a smile to face :)

As a 20 year veteran of IHG hotels, this was the worst experience in the chain. 1. Checked into a room that was recently smoked in, had to switch rooms. 2. From 2:05am to 2:45am a loud alarm was going off in a room on same floor. It woke up entire floor. It was someones phone. After 40 mins, and a middle night call to front desk, then a visit to front desk they finally went to investigate. 2:50am alarm was finally turned off. 3. 9am, stop by front desk to chat about the nights alarm, walk into the snack shop, grab a water to purchase. Treated like a criminal, saying I cant go into the store. No sign posted just an absolute rude, put that back, you can not go in there. Why have the store, if your not selling the product. Strangest and worst experience with IHG ever. Do not recommend, and absolutely 100% will drive a hour to avoid this place and there people.
