I chose the Garden Inn Kent Island because I’ve passed it many times and thought it looked like a nice place to stay. I finally had the opportunity and took it. I should have read the reviews more carefully.
The rooms are clean and comfortable. As a Diamond member, I received an “upgrade” to a suite overlooking the bay—lucky me! Unfortunately, that meant the southwest corner directly facing The Jetty Restaurant, which has live bands on weekends. I didn’t know this when booking or checking in.
Check-in was slow, even though I had checked in online. The staff member seemed either brand new or completely over it. When I asked about the restaurant'ssse hours, he said the chef probably didn’t show up. He was right—no food service that night.
Later, the live music started. I called the front desk and was told the band plays until around 1 a.m.—every weekend. So much for a quiet night. Earplugs weren’t readily available, but I was offered a white noise machine instead.
Between the closed restaurant, disinterested staff, and nightclub-level noise in my “upgraded” room, this property fell short on every front that matters to travelers: service, amenities, and rest. The view is lovely, but I’d trade it for a decent meal and a good night’s sleep any day.

Tim at the front desk may be the rudest and least empathetic human to ever work in customer service, but if you can make it past that, the hotel is nice. I travel frequently for work, this is probably my 30th hotel this year. Tim takes the cake.

It would have a great stay except for the billing issue. I won't go into the details, but in essence, I was overcharged. Not much, but I didn't appreciate the Manager's comment that because I am a Gold Member, I should know the food credit policy. I don't and my response was, why would I? Anyway, after calling the Hotel two days later, I thought I had resolved the issue. Three weeks later, still no refund. So I called Hilton's Guest Assistance line and settled for hotel points. So I feel both cheated and defeated. The room was fine and the views are great. Not much to do within walking distance, but there are places to eat nearby so a night stay is perfect. Unless you get overcharged. Note: With respect to the response: I'm usually not this petty in reviews, but if they really valued my loyalty, it wouldn't take three weeks, multiple phone cars, and chats to provide me with a sub-par resolution.
