    ⭐ 1-Star Review: Holiday Inn Express – Elizabethtown, KY Date of Original Reservation: November 5 Assistant Manager Involved: Candace My family and I had one of the most unprofessional and disturbing customer service experiences we’ve ever encountered while traveling. We booked and paid for our reservation on November 5 and received our confirmation number. We were traveling all the way from Connecticut to Kentucky with our children, expecting a smooth check-in at the Holiday Inn Express in Elizabethtown. Instead, we received an unexpected and extremely rude phone call from Candace, the assistant manager. While my wife was driving, Candace claimed that our reservation “wasn’t paid for” and demanded that my wife “hurry up and pay” immediately. My wife calmly explained that she was driving and that we had spoken with a male employee the day before who confirmed everything was taken care of. Because my wife didn’t remember his name, Candace became disrespectful, dismissive, and then abruptly canceled our reservation altogether. Her tone and behavior were so hostile that our children began crying in the back seat. No family traveling long distance should ever be subjected to that sort of treatment. When we contacted Holiday Inn corporate to make a formal complaint, we never expected the same exact employee we complained about to call my wife back. But that’s exactly what happened. Candace called again—this time to argue, raise her voice, and even accuse my wife of lying, all while claiming her manager was standing right next to her. She repeatedly stated she’s “worked there 15 years with no problems,” yet her behavior during these calls was completely unprofessional, aggressive, and unwarranted. It is shocking and disappointing that Holiday Inn Express would allow an assistant manager to handle a situation like this with such disrespect, lack of empathy, and zero accountability. The fact that the individual being complained about is allowed to call the guest directly to argue is beyond unacceptable and reflects extremely poor management practices. After this experience, we will never stay at this hotel again, and we cannot recommend Holiday Inn Express in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Our business trips, family travel, and lodging needs will be taken elsewhere from now on. Holiday Inn should be deeply embarrassed by the way this situation was handled.

    The hotel was in the perfect location! We were in Etown for a soccer tournament. Nice staff! Very clean rooms. I chose this hotel because of all the good reviews about it. I also chose this one because of the indoor pool. BUT...the chlorine was so strong that my husband and I could NOT even sit it the pool area very long at all. We were not swimming, just sitting in chairs watching our children swim and the chlorine irritated our eyes so bad. My face and neck started turning red. We had to leave. Our kids were so disappointed....but there was NO way we could stay any longer. We were all pretty bummed. So I do NOT recommend the indoor pool at this hotel. We have been to several hotels with indoor pools and have NEVER ran into an issue like this. We will be back in Etown for other soccer tournaments, but not sure we will be back to this hotel unless they fix this issue.

    Was impressed with the friendly service. The rooms were clean. Breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts I have had for a long time. The breakfast hist was awesome

    Absolutely loved this HIE & Suites location! We were there for 2 nights, Oct 5-6. This team has it down to a "T" in every regard. Not sure we've ever seen so much activity from a staff perspective, but they were all over it, from management walking through the lobby noting areas on columns that needed touch-up from customer hits, to housekeeping, to front desk, to the ladies working the breakfast area. This team should be the model for the entire chain. Wow. We had a great stay. The only negative we would note is IHG's move to the automated coffee makers. They make weak coffee, don't offer light/dark options, and create customer back-up at busy times. I'm sure this is a cost-/time-saving measure, but request you go back to separate dark/light coffee options. The machines don't cut it.
