  My husband and I were traveling from TX north to our home in WI and needed a place to stop for the night. We are IHG members and have generally had good experiences with Holiday Inn Express. Overall though, this was not a good experience: 1) I booked directly from the IHG website and price was $117. Go to check in and the total came to $145 + $50 room deposit (refundable 7-10 DAYS(!)) AFTER checkout. When I asked about the total being $145 when I thought I booked at $117, the front desk said that there is a — wait for it …. A 23.5% state, county, and city “Room Occupancy Tax”!!! UN.B.LIEVABLE!!! It was getting late and we were exhausted so we kept our reservation. 😳😑 2) We go up to our room and begin to get settled and my husband stepped on an exposed carpet tack strip. Luckily, he still had his shoes on! 😳😑 3) We look forward to having an amenity like a pool after a long day of travel. However, when we checked in (and as I was asking about the increased cost of staying the night!) we noticed a sign at the front desk saying “POOL CLOSED” What we can’t understand is how a property can have real-time room occupancy be made available on their website but not a notice of the pool being closed. 😳😑 4) We arrived at 8:00 at night - well after MOST guests check in. There were maybe 15 cars in the lot (it was Easter Weekend) so we could see it wasn’t a very busy night for the hotel. Just as we had settled in our room, getting ready to fall asleep - as our nights luck would have it - someone is in the room above us - stomping around most of the night! We don’t understand WHY — when there is a hotel as big as this place, with very few guests WHY they had to book the room above us. 😳😑 5) Get up in the morning to grab a quick bite to eat and coffee for the road. I’ve generally been impressed with the new instant coffee makers now at most hotels (“fresh” ground beans) - it’s decent coffee. BUT … I went to put in my usual 1-pump of creamer and eeeeek! I see a sticky string of old creamer dripping out of the pump and … it’s moldy 🤢 So then I take one of those little half-n-half containers instead. I open the container … and chunks drip out. 🤢 😳😑 As noted in my general rating, the night staff was pleasant, it’s a decent location with several food options close by. The morning staff did not ask about our stay when we turned our room keys in. I think she’s lucky she didn’t.

  Very clean room nice environment. Was literally here just to sleep but the room was top notch for not that much. The breakfast the next morning was astounding biscuits and gravy sausage bacon waffles muffins cereal pancakes cinnamon rolls eggs omelets oatmeal I do believe AMAZING BREAKFAST
