I spent 12 days at the Hilton Garden Inn Indianapolis Downtown for training, and let me tell you — this place has character. It’s a beautiful historic building that’s been remodeled with a lot of care. The kind of place where you walk into your room and think, “Ah yes, I am the main character.”
My room was spotless the entire stay. Housekeeping deserves a standing ovation — fresh towels, tidy room, everything reset like I hadn’t spent the previous night stress‑eating snacks while reviewing training notes. The front desk staff were consistently friendly and accommodating, the kind of people who make you feel welcome even when you’ve been living out of a suitcase for almost two weeks.
The restaurant downstairs? Surprisingly fantastic. Delicious food with a sophisticated twist on bar fare — exactly the kind of menu that makes a self‑appointed travel and foodie amateur reviewer (hi, that’s me) feel like they’ve struck gold without ever leaving the hotel.
Now… here’s where things get a little tricky. I always try to be fair, kind, and honest, so stick with me.
The weather during my stay was brutally cold — the kind of cold that makes you question your life choices. The hotel had a boiler outage that knocked out heat for about eight hours. Honestly, I like my room cool, so I wasn’t too bothered. But I was also dealing with a separate heating/air issue in my room that had nothing to do with the boiler situation.
I reported it Friday afternoon. The front desk was great — apologetic, friendly, and quick to put in a work order. Saturday, I called again before heading out so maintenance could get in. Again, very polite, very reassuring. But when I came back… nothing. Same issue. Sunday? Same story. I even texted the front desk Tuesday (screenshot attached), and still no fix. The heater was basically unusable the entire time.
Now, to be fair, they were juggling a major building‑wide boiler problem, and I get that. But a quick update — good news, bad news, or even “we’re trying, please don’t lose hope” — would’ve gone a long way.
Here’s the bottom line:
This is a very clean, very nice, historic hotel with a great staff and a great restaurant. I’d absolutely stay again — but if you run into maintenance issues, be persistent or ask for a room change early. A little communication would’ve turned a good stay into a great one.
Still, the charm of the building, the friendliness of the staff, and the overall comfort make it a solid choice in downtown Indy.
