We loved our stay at Hotel Royer in Urbana, which is a very historic hotel. Everything has been renovated and updated so that it has this beautiful old world charm with a modern touch. The staff is very friendly and goes above and beyond to help you. Nisha at the registration desk was simply wonderful and helped us find the perfect room. Alicia, the front office manager, also helped us with a late check out. We really enjoyed walking around this place to see all the old historic pictures and to check out all the history this place has to offer. Jody Allen, the food and beverage manager, was there and was gracious enough to give us a nice tour of the hotel. It was very interesting to see what they used to be, and what everything has been transformed into. Even the old library has been turned into a wonderfully unique restaurant, and the old registration desk has been completely remade into a bar with their own specially made cocktails. Ryan and Stephanie at the bar made us some excellent drinks! This is a very elegant and beautiful hotel.
The restaurant is called the Writer’s Room and it is well worth the visit. It has very inventive menu items that you won’t find anywhere else made with ingredients sourced from local farms. We had a chance to have a pleasant conversation with their executive chef, Marielli Terrell, who has traveled the world using her culinary skills. Sarah, the waitress was very friendly and told us some of the history and old stories of the hotel. We also highly recommend getting the breakfast in the morning.
The only complaint we have is the indoor pool. The pool is very clean and well maintained. The room is heated very well making it feel warm and pleasant. However, the actual pool itself is very cold. Even with the room being warm, we weren’t able to spend more than two minutes in the pool, and so we really couldn’t enjoy it.
We highly recommend staying at this hotel if you love history and want to experience old school style and architecture mixed with modern convenience and comfort!
🤩🤩🤩
We hope you enjoy some of the photos and videos taken. We had a lot of fun exploring this place!

Easily one of the best hotel experiences I've had ever. Not a thing missed and expectations exceeded. All the amenities you'd need when looking for an ideal hotel choice. Added bonus, a well equipped and above average fitness room/gym. Shops and food walkable, too .
I stayed one night at the Hotel Royer with early check-in, and late check-out. It was peaceful and homey, perfect for after a night out in downtown Urbana.
The issues I personally had were the lack of outlet in my bathroom, and a lack of communication between the front desk & housekeeping regarding my late check-out.

Horrible hotel for the holidays, handicap individuals, and elderly. I booked this hotel for my parents who are in their 70's because it was highly rated and right down the street from my home during Christmas unfortunately, it was a terrible experience. My father who has advanced MS booked an accessible room but at check in was told that the hotel doesn't have them. I then got to waste hours of my holiday showing the hotel staff screen shots of the hotel room I booked, my confirmation number, and other nonsense only for it to take TWO days for them to finally get my father a room with a shower that is accessibility compliant. The hotel manager never appeared, never called us, never apologized, never managed for a better word. The front desk rather than being helpful or kind to an elderly handicapped guest, grew frustrated and short tempered. But best yet during my parents entire week long stay the hotel restaurant was closed. No breakfast! No lunch! No dinner! No room service! This was NEVER communicated BEFORE booking nor was any kind of discount offered for this huge inconvenience. Who wants to stay in a hotel with absolutely no services? What exactly is the POINT of staying in a hotel with no services? What is the point of staying at a Tapestry Hilton that doesn't offer coffee machines in your room nor in the lobby nor in the restaurant? Staying here is a HUGE inconvenience as guests are expected to go get every little thing themselves from bottled water to a cup of tea. As a Hilton Gold member for over a decade i have never had such bad service anywhere and I will be taking my service to other hotels in the future.
This stay had several issues that were not handled with the level of care or follow-through I would expect from a Hilton property, especially Tapestry!
Upon check-in, our original room had not been properly cleaned and there was visible fecal matter in the toilet. We immediately contacted the front desk and were moved to a new room, which was handled promptly.
Management later offered breakfast vouchers as a goodwill gesture, stating that two breakfast vouchers would be available the following morning. At breakfast, the restaurant was clearly and severely understaffed. Service was very slow, and multiple guests approached us asking if we were also waiting a long time for food, which highlighted how overwhelmed the staff appeared. The big bonus to this hotel is the absolutely stunning building and Michele star quality foods. This place is a gem that's just understaffed and mislead. The location is prime and right by many museums and lovely stores.
It was an absolute shame that when we went to the front desk to get the vouchers, the staff was not aware of the details. We had to show the email explaining what had been promised, were initially given a voucher for only one person, and then had to return again to have it corrected. What should have been a simple service recovery became awkward and time-consuming for the guest.
Throughout the stay, management’s response felt passive, with little ownership or coordination between teams. Mistakes happen, but sanitation issues, severe understaffing, and poor follow-through on promised resolutions should not all be occurring at the same time. This experience fell well below expectations. It's shocking to see such a beautiful hotel with incredibly meals and drinks have such big and avoidable issues. The staff who did work in the hotel were incredibly friendly and pleasant but clearly tired and overworked.
