I travel frequently for work, and there are only two hotel chains I choose to stay at. One of those two is Holiday Inn Express. The Urbana location is an incredible example of going beyond the brand. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Breakfast is on point every morning. Pool and hot tub are always operating and clean. Rooms are clean and ready to go for check-in. If you're traveling for business or pleasure, this is the spot in Champaign County.

I have traveled this route many times but just discovered this HIXP. Right off the interstate, very good service, excellent rooms. Left before breakfast so can't comment on that. I was pulling a trailer and really appreciated the large parking area. Will definitely stay here in the future.

Stayed here for the Half Century of Progress show in August 2025. Hotel was probably a desired spot back in its prime. Not so much now. One elevator was down, a lady in the lobby said it was down for 3 years. I went down to the lobby for more towels on Friday evening. It was a total clown show at the front desk. Apparently they were out of towels? How does that happen at a hotel? They told us to bring them our dirty towels so they could give us those back. There was a line of people waiting on: towels, broken A/C units, among other things. Luckily our A/C unit was in working order and ice cold. We didn't risk breakfast and opted for fresh donuts at the gas station next door. Roll the dice on this place if you dare. Typical owners doing barely enough to scrape by and pocketing $.

My wife and I stayed a night on a stop over on our trip to the Bourbon Trail. The staff was very pleasant, especially the young woman that was working at the front desk the evening we checked in. My wife was in need of a toothbrush, and the front desk quickly provided one for her, a well as a sample of toothpaste. Our room was nice, with a few minor issues. The main room itself looked like it had been through a recent renovation, with newer furniture and lighting. The fan in the bathroom was rather noisy, sounding like someone was trying bang their way through from the room above. Add to this that the A/C rattled a bit. Neither of these really spoiled our stay, but for $200+ we expected a little better. Breakfast in the morning was typical of most Holiday Inn locations, the famous pancake maker (my favorite!!), a sampling of hot foods (Eggs, bacon, sausage, etc), pastries, and so on. We were a slightly disappointed that even through the hotel did not seem very busy, and the breakfast area only had 5-6 people occupying tables, the hot food selection was in lower supply, with some items being gone altogether at 9:00 am. The items that were there were hot, and still allowed for a good selection of options. At the suggestion of my wife, took one of the mini cheese egg omelets, folded it in half and put it in between slices of biscuit, making a fine egg sandwich. I forgot to salt and pepper the egg, but found I didn't need to, as it was very flavorful. Overall I would recommend this hotel when driving through or staying in the area. The issues we found were small, and can be easily overlooked.
