While checking in, I overheard an Uber driver mention this is the newest hotel in town, and it shows.
Full disclosure: we’re not typically hotel people. We much prefer private vacation rentals, mainly for comfort and sleep quality. As very light sleepers, noisy wall A/C units, road noise & noisy guests in hotels are usually a deal-breaker for us when it comes to getting a good night’s rest.
That said, sometimes a hotel stay is necessary — especially for a one-night stop — and we often turn to the Home2 Suites chain. Of all the locations we’ve stayed at, this one was by far the nicest. It offered great amenities (laundry, gym, pool, patio, etc.), though we didn’t use them this time. We did enjoy the breakfast, which exceeded expectations, and felt the overall value was excellent.
Front desk staff were friendly and efficient at both check-in and check-out. If we ever need a short stay in Springfield again, we’d gladly return, even for a long weekend.
And that’s saying a lot coming from two die-hard vacation rental junkies!
Our only complaint isn’t with this specific hotel location, but with the chain’s app. This was the second stay we opted for electronic check-in — and the second time it didn’t work. After a long day on the road, the idea of skipping the front desk and heading straight to our room sounded perfect, but once again, the feature failed. It was a real letdown, and so far, the app is 0 for 2 in our experience.
My suggestion would be to hold off on offering this convenience until the bugs are fully resolved and there’s complete confidence that the feature will work reliably.
