HINT: O’Hare Airport is huge and can be confusing. If you want to catch the shuttle for the Rose Hotel, follow these directions:
Make your way to terminal two.
Take the elevator to the level LL
(the hotel tells you to go to the lower level, but there are three lower levels. Make sure you push the elevator button for level LL. )
Then make your way to the door marked 2E.
You have to call the hotel and tell them that you are waiting, and that you are in the proper place. When you call the hotel to request a shuttle, they tell you that they will come when you call them. But they actually run on a schedule at the top and the bottom of the hour. They leave the hotel at the hour, and at the half an hour.
When you call to request a shuttle, they want your hotel reservation information, and they ask you for your phone number. But if you miss the shuttle or you are at the wrong floor, no one will call you to say that they are there and that they are waiting for you, or that you have missed the shuttle. They just leave. You can wait an hour and never know they aren’t coming.
So please make sure that you follow the directions to take the elevator to level LL and then go to door 2E.
To be fair, when we missed the shuttle, and called after waiting for more than 20 minutes, only to find out that we were on the wrong lower level, they did offer to pay our taxi fare to the hotel. And they did that.
Now, the hotel. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are very clean. The shower is large, the bathroom is well lit; we experienced plenty of hot water.
The tapestry collection is an independently owned boutique Hotel that participates in the Hilton loyalty program.
There are really no amenities in the bathroom, other than shower caps and some wipes to remove your make up so you don’t get crap on their towels. There are no dental kits, no cotton swabs, no slippers, no bath robesno lotion. They do have the standard three: soap, shampoo, conditioner.
They have a little room marked, “market”There, you can buy lots of snacks, including red wine, and white wine from a cooler. There were some decent choices. They have a nice bar. If you buy wine from the market, you can pick up a couple of wine glasses at the bar so that you’re not drinking out of bathroom tumblers.
There are myriad electrical outlets near the bed - both sides. A big plus.
In our experience, the food from the kitchen was not good. We stayed here about six weeks ago, and we had breakfast before we left for the airport. I had ordered eggs over medium, and they came with so much snot I couldn’t eat them. I didn’t trust them to get it right the second time, so I ordered scrambled to replace them. Of course, my husband was done eating before me because I had to wait quite a while to get eggs that were cooked well enough to eat. I don’t know what they do to their breakfast potatoes but they were horrible. My husband and I are both big fans of potatoes in almost any fashion, but these were totally inedible. It’s up to you if you want to take a chance to eat here.
However, the hotel is so auspiciously located, that it’s an easy Uber ride to many wonderful restaurants (I recommend Caffe Pronto for breakfast or lunch) and many great shopping opportunities.
We never choose a hotel based on whether or not their food is good. Our criteria include how quiet it is, how great the bed is, whether or not they have an easily watchable flatscreen, how clean it is, how comfortable the bathroom is to use. In these respects, we give them five stars.
