- RSRachel SullivanApr 5, 20262.0I booked a room as a stopover on a road trip. My first room smelled like cigarettes so badly it was difficult to breathe, despite it being a 100% smoke free hotel. After only a few minutes, my luggage and the clothes on my body also smelled. I requested a new room without unpacking. The second room also smelled like stale cigarettes, though not as bad. The AC didn’t work, but thankfully the window opened so there was at least air flow. After 12 hrs of driving I didn’t have the energy to request a 3rd room, so I stuck it out. I’ve been an IHG member for over a decade and have never had a problem at a Candlewood. I booked at this location to save $30 over the Holiday Inn Express, and I learned my lesson. 2/10, would not recommend unless you’re a smoker with no sense of smell and like a hot room.
