The former home and tin shop of Sylvester and Lydia Stoddard, notable members of the community built by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during the 1840s in Nauvoo.
In August 2025, we visited the Sylvester and Lydia Stoddard Tinsmith home in Nauvoo, Illinois. We were in Nauvoo to see the Nauvoo Pageant, a theatrical performance that happens nightly during the Summer. Like all of the other exhibits in Nauvoo, the tinsmith exhibit does not cost anything. The displays and exhibits are cleverly arranged and they give a detailed account of the Stoddards life and tinsmith trade. The missionaries demonstrate how some of the tinsmith trade is performed. The home and tinsmith shop are clean, well-maintained, and cleverly organized and displayed. The Stoddard Tinsmith home is a highly enjoyable and memorable experience.

Early pioneers utilized this stunning element of the periodic table for noble acts of science. Tin buckets, tin pans, and more.
