We stayed here while traveling to Flora for a family funeral, and unfortunately our experience was very disappointing.
Our family has stayed at this hotel many times over the years when visiting family in the area. However, over the last couple of years we have noticed a decline, and this stay raised some serious concerns.
My father-in-law arrived three days before we did and told us the hotel did not have hot water. Staff repeatedly told him they had called someone to fix it. When we checked in, we were told the issue had been resolved. There was briefly warm water when we washed our hands after checking in, so we assumed the problem had been fixed.
We had been up since 4 a.m. traveling and dealing with the loss of a family member, so we went straight to bed. When we woke up the next morning, the water was ice cold and we were unable to take showers.
We also discovered that the fire alarm had been removed from the room, which was concerning from a safety standpoint.
Hot water and a working fire alarm are basic necessities in any hotel. It also raises questions about how breakfast was being prepared and how towels and bedding were being properly cleaned if there had been no hot water for several days.
We asked the front desk for a discount for the night we stayed and to cancel the remainder of our reservation, as we decided to move our stay to a hotel in Olney, Illinois, where we had a much better experience. The staff took our name and said management would contact us, but it has now been two days and we have not heard anything, and we were still charged full price for two days at the Flora location.
The staff were polite, but it was frustrating to be told the issue had been fixed when it clearly had not been. Given the circumstances of our trip, we expected at least basic standards of safety and comfort. I hope management addresses these issues and follows up appropriately
