We had a great time at the InterContinental Chicago Mag Mile. Upsides: room was clean, nicely-appointed, and had a nice view; check-in, valet, and checkout were quick and simple to navigate; all of the staff were VERY kind and helpful, and the architectural character of the facility was very interesting! We got to see inside several of the ballrooms and event spaces, and they are magical. There is also a very fun pool and fitness center. My only complaint is that it was difficult to do laps in the pool as there were a lot of kids to maneuver around, and the water was cloudy,(?!) and hard to see the walls and pool bottom to do turns.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile, especially given its reputation as a high-end hotel.
If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. I chose this property because of the level of customer service they are known for, and this experience was the complete opposite. We even signed up for the rewards program expecting a certain standard, but after this interaction, I will be canceling it.
I had originally reserved my stay for August 8-11th and even upgraded to a city view, paying in full upfront. Due to current events in the news, my family and friends strongly advised me not to travel for the safety of myself and my son. As a mother, my priority is always my child’s well-being.
I called the hotel to request a refund, and after being placed on hold for an extended period, I was finally connected with a manager named Angelica. Unfortunately, the interaction was very unprofessional and disappointing. She was dismissive of my concerns, stating that “whatever is going on in the news is not going to happen,” which I found extremely insensitive. None of us can predict the future, and I was simply making a cautious decision for my family’s safety.
When I tried to explain further, she interrupted me and ultimately hung up the call. This level of rudeness and lack of empathy is not something you expect from a hotel of this caliber.
What makes this even more frustrating is that every other representative I spoke with prior to her was understanding and respectful. She was the only person who treated the situation with such disregard.
I had already canceled my flight and made other arrangements, including transportation, and was simply asking for reasonable consideration given the circumstances. Being told I would not receive any refund, combined with such poor customer service, was incredibly upsetting.
Due to this experience, I will also be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, as this situation was handled in a completely unprofessional manner.
I hope management takes this feedback seriously, as this experience does not reflect the standards one would expect from a luxury hotel.

I recently stayed at the InterContinental Hotel and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. The room was not as clean as expected—the windows were visibly dirty, and the bathroom did not appear to be fully cleaned. On top of that, the ironing board was broken, which was inconvenient.
For a hotel at this price point (around $400 a night), I expected a much higher level of cleanliness and attention to detail. This was my first time staying at an InterContinental, and it did not meet my expectations.
Overall, I was disappointed with my stay and hope the hotel improves its housekeeping standards moving forward.

Mainly chose it due to location but will do the Londonhouse next time. The pool is a major safety concern. Even at 9 pm, people are on their phones or working out as their kids are floating in the 10 foot section of the pool, there was not one parent even in the pool with their child. I didn’t even swim until 7 am because of how many children. Didn’t realize the hotel had what people think is a free daycare. They sneak an amenity fee on you after you leave, and I don’t know what amenities but the pool sure wasn’t one, you pay at least $28 for any breakfast, the restaurant is $80 plus, and you pay for everything, that’s not an amenity. Beautiful hotel, nice people, but I will definitely take my business to another hotel next time.

The InterContinental Chicago was just ok and a little underwhelming. Great location, right in the middle of everything. Short walk to shopping and the river, and still able to take an affordable ride share for further attractions.
This hotel was chosen because of the pictures and description on the website, I will start off by saying that they were a little deceiving. We had upgraded our room from standard to standard suite, which was promoted to feature a city view. The city view was of the roof next to our window. Not a huge deal, we didn't spend much time in the room anyway, but off-putting. The room was a bit smaller than advertised, but still a comfortable stay with comfortable beds. The biggest issue with the room is that the shower setup was not practical. When taking a shower you must be aware that there will be a flood. There was nothing to stop the water from leaving the shower floor onto the rest of the floor in around the bathroom. We had to constantly request towels so that we were not walking into a small pond when needing to use the bathroom.
The hotel services/staff was the area of our stay that we had the most issues. Upon arrival, we had been greeted by the valet bell hop, who at first was helpful. We had a plan to park our own vehicle at a different location and wanted to carry our own luggage/items to our room however, was informed that we must use the valet and bell hop service provided. After a few moments of back and forth, we obliged. When I handed him a tip at what we thought was a great tip for a service we did not originally want, was such a low amount he scowled and mentioned his work schedule when we wanted to come back to pay him the rest. Then we had to tip the bell hop who delivered our items into the room, understandably but it took them 35 min to deliver our items... that we originally wanted to carry ourselves.
We decided to have room service, which was a very pleasant meal however, be aware of the hotel charging gratuity automatically, and also the request for an additional tip, plus the tip for the delivery.
Last, as we were leaving, I requested to use a cart so we could try to carry our own luggage down to our vehicle. I didn't have high hopes that we would be able to, but it was worth a shot. When I asked about a cart down in the lobby, I was told, "This isn't some kind of suburban hotel you might be used to, this is the InterContinental Chicago, and you will use our services." I thought this was a bit disrespectful, as a simple "no" would have been just fine. So we ended up making a couple trips to and from our room, loaded up all of our luggage ourselves, and won't be back to this location.
Disclaimer, this was our experience. It was a busy weekend, and understand each staff member has a responsibility. I think next time I will stay at one of the "suburban" hotels that fits my lifestyle and expectations for respect.
