I have stayed at this hotel multiple times. Over the years of using military leave to visit family I have stayed at this hotel. The hotel I stayed at last week is NOT the same standard of hotel! For one the elevators mostly didn't work but they closed off the stairs so people would constantly be stacked up waiting for an elevator in the lobby. The hotel looks outdated and unkempt. I notified the front desk that I did not in fact bring my pet and he could check my room or with valet parking to confirm. He said it was taking care of but there was the pet fee on my receipt at checkout. But worst of all I have stayed in motels with bathtubs that did not look as bad as this one and I took pictures as proof. Run times. Mold. Mildew. It was disgusting. I would not have allowed my son to shower there had I saw that first. My wife and I were unable to take showers there and I have pictures to prove how nasty this downtown hotel was. There were NO TOWELS in the pool area and my wife had to request them FOUR TIMES so my son didn not have to go back to our room soaking wet. It is sad to see what has become of this once great hotel. This was a terrible stay that I would not recommend and I will NEVER return!

We had a fabulous week stay at this hotel. We initially booked an Airbnb for our week long Chicago Christmas but decided last minute to book a hotel with a pool, and in/out privilege parking. Of course, the pool was out of order our entire week almost, it was fixed before we left but the water was so cold we couldn’t enjoy it. Regardless we had fun running around the hotel with our 3 year old, he loved the fountain, and big perk was free breakfast! It was great. Alternated between pancakes and French toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, made to order omelets! Honestly big spread, toast, bagels, muffins, yogurt, fruit, oatmeal, something for everyone! They also had 2 free drinks (alcohol or not) we day from 5:30 pm with light snacks) honestly, totally great for families which we saw many of. It felt like home, everyone in their PJs for breakfast - some families took it to their room and others tried to find a table which sometimes wasn’t easy but we always managed to find one. We met the best cleaning lady, she was super sweet and memorable on floor 4. Location wise, amazing, surrounded by many top restaurants, shopping and attractions. Rooms are big and spacious, fun space for families traveling together with kids. We really enjoyed our stay! Also valet team was great also! :)
Honestly I have no clue why this hotel is considered 4 star and has such good ratings. This is a 3 star at BEST, but really I’d say 2 star.
The rooms are spacious but LOUD. The walls are paper thin. The carpet in the room is gross. The ceilings are low. We can hear tapping above us like something is rattling the pipes. Or people walking around are rattling the pipes. We finally figured out that it’s people going up and down the corner stairway, even though we are 2 rooms away. I can literally hear my neighbor sneeze. Because of the open layout, the noise from the lobby just echos. The rooms are also super stuffy and hot!
The showers barely even put out enough water to wash your body.
The elevator situation is ridiculous and there is always a line. We were stranded in the parking garage with a cart full of luggage for a really long time. A very kind worker helped us find an alternate route to our room.
Literally the only thing this hotel has got going for it is its location.
We tried to get bath towels 4 times - we didn’t ask for our room to be cleaned, just asked for new towels. They never arrived, the cleaning ladies wouldn’t give them to us, and literally guest services does not answer the phone. I’ve tried to call them 4-5 times over the last few days just to get a bath towel. It shouldn’t be this hard. We still don’t have them!
The breakfast is terrible and closes at 9:30am. Their waffles look like soggy eggos. Just gross.
We would definitely not stay here again.

We are Hilton Gold members and have always stayed at Embassy Suites without issue until this stay at Embassy Suites River North. After traveling from Washington, DC with our children and arriving late at night following a long trip, the last thing we expected was to deal with conditions like this. We stayed from 22-25 of Decemeber.
Our initial room had multiple serious problems. The shower handle was broken, and we could barely get hot water at extremely low pressure. The air conditioning did not work at all. When we reported it, we were told to open the window, an unacceptable solution in cold weather, especially since our children began coughing when the window was open. We were forced into an open-and-close routine just to manage the temperature
The room raised additional concerns: bed sheets appeared damaged as if eaten, which was alarming and suggested possible bed bug issues. The phone did not work, the bathtub was black and stained, and the bathroom vent was moldy and full of dust.
We were moved to another room after being told we would receive compensation and instructed to file a claim. Unfortunately, the second room had similar issues. The tub was again corroded and black, the AC still did not function, and we once again had to rely on opening the window for cool air.
They ran out of clean towels during the day and we had to wait until late that night. While fresh towels were provided, one towel had visible stains that appeared to be makeup and fecal matter! Completely unacceptable from a Hilton property.
What makes this even more frustrating is that after our stay, we noticed multiple recent reviews describing the same issues, with guests stating they are still waiting for promised callbacks or refunds. This appears to be an ongoing problem that has not been resolved.
As loyal Hilton guests, this experience was deeply disappointing and far below brand standards. This was not the holiday stay we expected, especially after a long trip with children. We hope the hotel follows through on the promised compensation, but based on this experience, we cannot recommend this location.

This was my first experience with Hilton, and it will absolutely be my last.
I got married on 12/07/25 and selected Embassy Suites Chicago Downtown as my wedding hotel block since our venue was Osteria Via Stato. What should have been a straightforward hotel block turned into months of silence, lack of clarity, and awful customer service.
I initially worked with a sales representative to open a small block with the understanding it could be expanded. The initial rooms filled quickly, and from that point on, communication completely stopped. Emails and calls went unanswered for months. I contacted the hotel directly numerous times, left voicemails, and even had family members (including my brother, who went to the hotel in person) attempt to reach the sales department. No one ever followed up. I haven't had anyone reach out or respond since 4/29/25.
I also contacted Hilton Corporate multiple times over several months and was repeatedly told there was nothing they could do other than advise me to keep calling the hotel. Eventually, shortly before the wedding, someone from sales finally acknowledged that the original representative had left months earlier without any handoff, notification, or response to my repeated outreach. By then, it was too late to secure additional rooms, and I had to redirect guests to other hotels. In total, Hilton lost out on approximately 20 additional rooms that could have been booked.
During the stay itself, guests in the wedding block were scattered throughout the hotel rather than grouped together. To make matters worse, some guests were mistakenly given gift bags from a completely different wedding and directed to the wrong event despite the fact that I did not provide any gift bags to the front desk.
The wedding itself was wonderful, but Embassy Suites was by far the WORST vendor experience we had. I understand that large downtown hotels are busy, but the complete lack of communication, accountability, and follow-up was unacceptable especially for a wedding. As of 12/22/25, I still have never received a call back from sales.
If you are considering this hotel for a wedding block or event that requires coordination, I would strongly advise looking elsewhere.
