  Hilton is typically our preferred brand, and we chose this location in Ankeny based on the positive reviews, appealing photos, and the note that it had been recently renovated. Unfortunately, our experience felt nothing like what was described online. We were not placed in a recently renovated room, and it looked nothing like the pictures. I understand there can be variations, but our room felt old and worn with a drab atmosphere. There were stains on the ceiling and walls, wallpaper peeling under the sink, and very poor lighting—especially in the bathroom. The bathroom door cleared the toilet by less than an inch, so you had to stand to the side just to close it, and there was no door separating the bathroom from the bedroom. We also had only one kitchen chair. Cleanliness was disappointing. Some surfaces appeared to have been quickly wiped down, leaving streaks on the furniture and fridge, but other areas clearly hadn’t been touched in quite some time due to visible dirt and dust. The next morning we tried to make coffee and discovered there was no coffee pod holder and only one packet of regular coffee. When I went to the front desk, I was told nothing could be done because the hotel was full and they didn’t know where to find another coffee maker. The clerk said she would leave a note for the assistant manager. Later, I realized there were no spoons in the room either and went back to the desk, only to be told again that a note had been left and there was nothing else she could do. When we returned around 8:30 p.m., there was still no working coffee maker and no spoons. At that point, it was clear that guest service was not a priority. A few other concerns: • The shower had no liner—only a fabric curtain • The hairdryer didn't work well - alternated between hot and cold • The air conditioner was very old and extremely loud After returning home, we emailed the hotel about our experience and never received a response. Based on our stay, it’s hard to believe this is the same Homewood Suites reflected in other reviews. With so many hotel options in the area, I would not recommend this property.

  I had a fantastic stay at Homewood Suites by Hilton Ankeny. The room was extremely clean, spacious, and well laid out, with a full kitchenette and plenty of space to relax and feel comfortable. And HBO? That was an unexpected bonus that genuinely impressed me! What truly set this hotel apart, though, was the customer service. From the night manager to the overnight support staff, every single person I interacted with was incredibly courteous, welcoming, and friendly. No matter the hour, I was treated with kindness and professionalism from check-in all the way through check-out. That level of consistency in service is rare and deeply appreciated. So much warmth, you easily forget all about the crazy cold weather in Iowa haha. While room service could use some improvement, everything else about this stay exceeded my expectations. I absolutely loved the service and the warmth of the staff, and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area.

  VERY quiet location and on the night we visited, they weren't busy so we got an upgrade with our Hilton Honors membership. Staff as attentive, however we had very limited choices of food for breakfast as we arrived at 9:15. Some things were completely out and no one was around to ask for more. Recommend you get there earlier than we did to get all choices.

It’s rare to encounter someone who blends professionalism with such authentic care. If you're traveling to Ankeny and want a hotel that feels like home—with service that rivals luxury resorts—look no further. I’ll absolutely be returning, and I hope Cameron is still there to welcome me back!
