While TDY to Oahu, I was lodged in the IHG at Tripler AMC. Off the bat, I ran into an issue finding the place. Try the address or the name of the hotel in your GPS, and it will guide you to the Emergency Room entrance on Tripler. After circling the installation twice (IYKNK) I called the front desk. The gentleman told me where to turn to get to the hotel. (Hint: at the ER, veer right up the hill, can’t miss it.) When I got to my room, I had a glance and thought, “Yup. Army lodging.” My Initial impression is this building is old, no I mean OLD. Everything about it screams take-it-or-leave-it. However, it was clean. As I got to looking around, I realized this may not be what I thought. It seems like this building used to be old barracks. Probably BOQ (Batchelor Officer Quarters.). The ceilings are 10-12’ tall with 8’ doors leading to the lanai. The entire architecture and feel of the room screams military history. The main hospital was built in the mid 40’s, and there is a photo in the hallway showing the construction and this building is clearly being built at the same time. I looked it up, and I can’t find d any evidence that this particular building is on the Registry of Historic Buildings. But is is historic. If you are lucky enough to get a room on the second floor, you will be treated to views overlooking Oahu down to Honolulu Harbor. (Alas, I am on the first floor looking over a construction dumpster. Ce’ la vie) Pros: it has great HVAC, hot showers, lots of room, (separate bedroom and living room separated by the bathroom.) Vets will know exactly that layout. TVs in both rooms with lots of channels. A nice lanai to enjoy at you leisure. Free WiFi. Larger fridge than a dorm-sized fridge. Rustic plumbing fixtures (if you are into military nostalgia.) iron and ironing board (important if you are staying here TDY instead of on vacation.) Cons: It’s old, there are no lights that are connected to a light switch. You have to go find the lamp and turn it on at the lamp. It could use a desk since most, I suspect people that stay here are here on business. They offer a microwave oven and the fire-mentioned fridge so I feel they could offer a plastic spoon, fork, and knife. Huge con, you are on a small military installation, so there is nothing here. Uber/Lyft can’t come get you and there are no restaurants within decent walking distance. If you stay here, you have to have a vehicle or access to a ride. I can’t ding the hotel for that. Overall, I give it four stars. The staff alone is 1.5 of those stars.

Unbelievably rude customer service. Can't believe they let people like this speak on the phone to others. If your paid to do a job, do the job.

The rooms are nice here. Everything is pretty renovated There are no elevators, which is a downfall for older disabled veterans. The breakfast was pretty underwhelming. Doesn’t have the usual IHG specials.
