The front desk staff were unhelpful and had a poor attitude. The room was small, with an especially tiny bathroom, and the door’s manual lock was broken. The floor lamp was poorly designed, making the switch hard to find. While the hotel aims for a modern vibe, it feels superficial, with cheap materials, low-quality finishes, and inadequate service.
I really enjoyed my stay at the Ambassador Hotel of Waikiki. The staff were helpful and everyone was kind. We had made a booking mistake with our reservation where we booked the wrong room and ended up in the smaller room. They had tried to accommodate to change us but weren't able to do availability. However, we had lost a day of our vacation due to travel delays, so the hotel had extended our stay by an extra day to make up for our lost day for free. The manager/director Earl is very kind and accommodating and gives excellent service!
Regarding the location, it was fine for us as we enjoy walking and there's a lot of stores around. However, if you want to be closer to the beach, it is about a 10 to 15 minute walk.
As I mentioned, we had accidentally booked a smaller room but it was very cute and cozy and we actually enjoyed staying in it. There was enough space to store all of our stuff out of our luggage bags and the beds are comfortable. My only suggestion for room improvement would be better coffee system as the coffee was weak and better hair dryers as the one in our room didn't work very well and would actually start smoking sometimes so I barely used it.
It is an older building that has been renovated with a facelift to be more modern, but the end of the day the bones and the architecture is older. The only areas that seemed outdated were the hallways which isn't really a big deal as you're not spending that much time there - they just give vintage motel vibes. We loved the vibes at the pool!
The staff had a terrible attitude, especially the woman at the front desk during the day time. I booked a room and stayed for seven days. For whatever reason, they charged me for the first night’s accommodation on the second day of my stay, and they forgot to give me a receipt for the first night’s stay when I checked out. When I asked for the receipt and explained that I need the receipt for reimbursement since this was a business trip. The staff were very rude and refused to provide the receipt. I had to log into my travel card account in front of them and show them the charge on my account. Not only did they not apologize for their negligence, they humiliated me with their rude attitude.
The pictures of the hotel posted online looked very nice and appealing. But in reality, it is nowhere near as good as the pictures. Hallway feels like a motel. Although I paid for a standard room, the room I stayed in was incredibly small, so small that it only fit a bed and a desk against the wall; there wasn’t even a chair.

When we initially booked this hotel we were very excited that it was part of the Hilton Tapestry Collection. The photos we saw impressed us and we were very excited to stay here as a 4-star hotel in Waikiki. As gold- status Hilton members we were also excited to finally get some perks for getting to this status. We booked two rooms for our group. We were all very wrong and disappointed upon arrival. Upon check-in, we arrived early to request our complimentary room upgrade and early check-in - we were told there were no upgrades available during our stay because they were “booked out”, even though we saw rooms were available on the Hilton website during our dates (we checked before arriving)…we didn’t want to argue so we let it go. We also did not get our room until 3pm.
We booked 2 king rooms - the hallways had exposed cement blocks and exposed plumbing running along the ceilings (not very 4-star). The floors were also made of plastic, great for rolling suitcases but not very chic. We had a lot of luggage and we were not offered help to our room at check-in.
The hotel itself looks like Hilton bought a dingy motel from the 80s and slapped some paint on, plasticized the floor, and slapped wallpaper in the rooms (which were peeling off). Not impressed so far. The bathrooms were upgraded and were the “star” of the entire hotel stay. The USB-Cs next to the beds did not work, which we noticed when waking up to dead phones. HUGE gap under the door let light into the room all the night.
Another perk was $18 per person per day credit to use in the hotel, we thought “great” we can use it at the restaurant. Favourite Son was the biggest food let down on the whole island and we drove the whole island. We purchased pizza, bruschetta and drinks and gave them a try everyday. We ended up not finishing the food and tossing our drinks in the plants (poor things). What made the experience even worse at the hotel restaurant was the bartender. She struck up a conversation about our plans for the next day one night, we mentioned we booked Kualoa Ranch, and she went on to berate it saying it is not worth the money and is a waste of time, while another guest sitting next to us caught on and added that we should have gone to museums instead. They bounced off each other for 5 full minutes. Really made us excited for the next day…needless to say we didn't go back to the bar for the rest of our stay to avoid her negativity. One of the nights, the staff actually closed the restaurant 2 hours early because they had not had any patrons for the last 1.5 hours. Our group was saying the restaurant wasn’t even worth our free credit being used.
The beach equipment rental credit we received was not at the hotel, it’s at Twin Fin, 10 min drive away on Waikiki Beach. Not easy parking nearby and return is 5pm - not good.
We got lucky with free street parking so we avoided the $40 per night parking rate.
Lastly, as gold-status we were told we had daily housekeeping. We had to call down twice to remind them to please clean up the room as we were using towels a lot after long days out. Our friend was told they only do housekeeping mid-week, which doesn’t make sense if a guest has short term stay. They did not seem bothered by his call at all and essentially told him to wait for mid-week. When I called down, they said it was weird and would send someone up with fresh towels. Those never came, so I called the next morning before leaving to remind them to please have housekeeping stop by both of our rooms. They said yes. This was thankfully completed when we came back that day.
The pool area is very nice but we did not use it. The complimentary beach towels were helpful and nice to have, so I will give them that. The gym was also very nice and very complete.
That’s about all the positivity I can give this hotel. For the amount of money we paid while also having “status” and for it being a 4-star hotel with no 4-star service, I would have rather stayed at an Airbnb or the Holiday Inn Express across the way.
Save your money and don’t stay here.
