I've always chosen premier inn when I could for it's central location but I've always wondered why there were no loyalty points for always booking there and this bank holiday weekend stay was so disappointing.
First of all when we arrived just before 3 and though there was two staff whispering to each other at the front of the counter they didn't even say Welcome (it's a small thing but it means a lot) and expected us to just check in via the machine which I went to do but it said wait till 3 pm so we waited awkwardly in the lobby as it slowly filled up with ppl also waiting for the magic 3 pm.
When 3 pm came however the lady with a chin length dark hair said the rooms weren't ready so we couldn't check in and we just had to wait. Fine.
We were then checked in incorrectly as there was a mixup with my relatives who had booked as well and we had accidentally settled in their room. How embarrassing and what a bad start to the stay.
There's no phone in the rooms so we had to go all the way to the reception and even then it wasn't really sorted: solution was we had to scoot out and go to another room.
Fine.
We stayed 3 days and the breakfast was sold as having us help ourselves cereals and fruits and pastries so imagine our disappointment to just see packaged butter croissants or chocolate pastries and a coffee machine or tea.
Many ppl complained but we were just told to raise a complaint if we weren't satisfied. No compensation or vouchers and we paid full prices.
Fine.
We stayed 3 evenings and on the 2nd and 3rd evening , our keys didn't work and we had to go down and fix it. We felt like squatters despite paying for the rooms.
Then we came back at 3 pm and nothing was cleaned and housekeeping told us they weren't informed.
We had to get fresh towels ourselves as we thought to replace the towels we had to put in bath so we couldn't reuse those. The shower gel was almost empty. I guess I should have been grateful the toilets could flush and we had toilet paper, that's the only perk really they seemed to give.
Then we asked for cleaning for just one day promptly at 10 am before we left, the lady with her chin length hair did say it would all be cleaned and we would get fresh linens when we came back.
I was also knocked while resting in the room by one of the staff on our last evening as they were confused why we were in the room ( and yes that added to us feeling like squatters).
I'm not sure what would have helped but I think I was just hoping for an apology or even a token water or snack? Nothing.
We were very sad. The service we received here doesn't reflect the great experience we had in many other premier inns across the country where staff was kind and at least checked us in properly and did housekeeping and had breakfast. Is this a franchised one? Is this closing?
It's like this branch went out of its way to prove they were a no frills hotel.
Do they want us to leave with unhappy holiday memories?
Because in my case, they succeeded. Very disappointed.
Including proof that the free breakfast was false advertising.
Editting to add after to confirm we did ask for house keeping at 10 am.. do better.

The hotel is central and walking distance from the train station. The property is under renovation and had limitations. Yes it was full price charged. Check-in was very poor, you have to request for housekeeping and it didn't get done.
Staffs appear to be ill prepared and not well trained to the needs of the guests. Breakfast is so called pastries, fruits and cereals on the side as due to renovations, they are not providing a full service. There were no cereals as mentioned and there was barely anything. Very disappointing and highly not recommended 😕 for a stay . Especially when you get overcharged for a hefty price as such..

We stayed in here for a few days on holiday in August 2026. Our first night the evening staff in the restaurant attached were kind and welcoming. The morning staff in the hotel had profiled and discriminated my partner as he was having a cigarette in the parking area so our young children could see him from the window. Little while after my partner had police officers search him as the staff had accused him of trying to steal cars or things from cars while we were on holiday. My children watched the matrid a manager and possibly the cheff of the morning shift walk and talk about my partner like a criminal when he was only just having a cigarette where the young children could easily see him. From then on the staff were always staring at my self and my family making us all feel uncomfortable, unwelcome and that our privacy was next to nothing. It had put a dark experience on our holiday. We will not be returning and will use another place. There were only two staff that were kind, understanding and made us feel welcome there were Phillip and phillepe who had served us several times in the restaurant and hotel desk several times. Thank you to the two members of staff that done everything they could to make sure we were comfortable and happy they deserve a raise .

Good location right near train station. Air con wasn't great which meant room was very hot and uncomfortable to sleep in. The price of £129 a night is something I won't be doing again after seeing I could've got a much better hotel for about £20 more. Used to love Premier Inns but not going to continue paying those amounts for just an ok room. Not even a bottle of water in room. Plus building work on the floor below us started at 8am which I know they can't help but yeah, not somewhere I'll be going again I'm afraid.

My review was removed so I'll post again. Firstly, great location and main attractions within walking distance.
Reception staff were helpful, especially when we needed extra towels ( we were in a family room).
Rooms were ok, but as other have mentioned, there was a damp smell from the carpet and a few cobwebs, which I'm willing to look past.
Breakfast on our second from last day was a disaster. There was a queue forming at the narrow counter and people were waiting for items not coming out of the kitchen quick enough. then the coffee machine broke ... two of them.
The staff were overwhelmed and despite their best efforts, no leadership was there to provide direction or provide solutions to numerous issues 3 of them were juggling themselves.
