I recently stayed at the Hotel Indigo York and had a wonderful experience. The location is truly unbeatable—you are right in the heart of the city and can easily walk to the city center in about 8 minutes.
The hotel itself is lovely, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout my entire stay, which really made a difference. I also have to highlight the breakfast, which was absolutely awesome—definitely one of the best parts of the morning.
My only minor complaint was the shower design. It suffered from the same issue I’ve encountered previously at another IHG hotel; the use of a half-glass panel instead of a full door meant that water splattered everywhere, making a mess of the bathroom floor. It is a shame, as a simple full glass door would have been much more practical.
Despite that, everything else was excellent. If you’re looking for a comfortable, well-located, and welcoming base for your time in York, I would definitely recommend it.

Having visited York many times and stopped at the Indigo we were greeted with everything as expected BUT breakfast had changed. We were seated and given out tea and coffee with a menu for the kitchen or choose from the buffet breakfast. No one came for an order from the kitchen so we went for the buffet breakfast and what a disappointment. The serving dishes had lids ? So we had to hold the lid with nowhere avaliable to rest it, hold our plate and use the tongs. Not possible so you balanced lids on other dispensers stopping others. The bacon nice and thick but cooked in a oven and impossible to cut, one choice of egg scrambled with most of the other choices cold. A very poor presentation and not what I have known or expected.

My wife and I stayed here for one night during our trip to York, and we were very impressed.
The location is fantastic and close enough to walk to York city centre, The Shambles, York Minster, the city walls and other attractions, while also being surrounded by plenty of restaurants, cafés, pubs, and shops. Also, the staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay.
We stayed in a Standard Room with 1 King Bed, which was clean, comfortable, and a great size for a couple. The room had a lot of character, with lovely framed artwork and decorations that made it feel more unique than a typical hotel room. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was spotless, complete with a heated towel rail.
We also appreciated the thoughtful amenities provided, including complimentary water, snacks, tea and coffee facilities, bathrobes, slippers, a safe, mini fridge, and an iron with ironing board. Everything was well maintained.
Another big plus was how quiet the hotel was. Despite being in such a convenient location, we had a peaceful night’s sleep.
The only thing preventing a full 5-star rating was the television. It wasn’t connected to the internet and only had a limited range of standard channels available. After a long day exploring York, it would have been nice to have access to streaming apps or more modern entertainment options.
Overall, this was excellent value for money and a hotel we would happily stay at again when visiting York. Highly recommended for couples looking for a comfortable, well-located base to explore the city.
Excellent.
What a wonderful hotel. On check-in we were welcomed incredibly warmly and enthusiastically with some helpful advice about York itself.
The building looks unremarkable from the outside but the room was excellent, with plenty of space and great furnishings. The bed was comfortable and the separate shower and bathtub were hugely appreciated.
The little touches are great too - including the courtesy drinks in the foyer and the little lending library.
Lots of other hotels could learn a lot from how Indigo York is run.

Lovely hotel in a great location. Staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful if they tried. Room was spotlessly clean and had everything we could have needed (hairdryer, robes, slippers, toiletries, air con in a heatwave). Breakfast was lovely, all tastes catered to. Only little downfall for me is that you have to pay for parking. IMO should be included within room cost, or at least cheaper than surrounding local car parks (all public carparks are £18 for 24h stay but hotel car park is £18 until 12pm next day, so if you don’t get there till 3pm check in time then you are missing out on a few hours). Staff went above and beyond which made our stay perfect.
