We chose this hotel because it is just a short walk from there to Royal Shakespeare Theatre. It is a really old building, so no lift.

We enjoyed our stay overall. The location is excellent, the historic character of the building is lovely, the room was comfortable, and touches such as the toiletries, bedding and portable air-conditioning unit were appreciated.
However, at £289 for one night including breakfast and parking, I felt the attention to detail should have been better. There were several issues that, while individually quite minor, collectively took the shine off the experience: a badly stained bed throw, a loose bathroom shelf, a bedside light switch that didn’t work, and only one complimentary can of water in a room booked for two guests.
I mentioned the maintenance issues at checkout as constructive feedback rather than as a complaint, as I wasn’t seeking compensation. Unfortunately, there was no explanation, apology or thanks for raising them.
Overall, it’s a charming hotel in a fantastic location, but at this price I expected everything to be right. With better attention to housekeeping and maintenance it would have matched the premium price more convincingly.
Straight to the point, your staff, especially those cooking and serving the food at breakfast should be given medals. We only stayed one night, had the full
English breakfast and it’s by far the best quality and taste I’ve had, to be honest I’m not sure how it could be that good. The quality of ingredients top notch, you could tell care had been taken to actually select and taste produce to ensure the best experience. I hope this never changes as we are coming back just for breakfast and so far is the best in England we have had.

This is my second time at this hotel and it did not disappoint, we booked 4 rooms for a surprise for my mums 70th and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is fantastic, the staff are amazing and its well priced for what you get, there was a BBQ on in the gardens when we were there unfortunately we didn't get a chance to sample it but it smelt and looked amazing. The hotel is well laid out the garden is a great little sun trap and very chilled, the pub at the front is great all the staff super friendly. Breakfast was amazing and there is a large variety. The room was super comfortable full of character and super clean, the shower was amazing we stayed in a standard Queen room. the location for exploring is also excellent your right in the town and a few minutes walk from the River. Cant big this hotel up enough and will definitely be back.
