just had overnight stay at the holiday inn in Bolton...it was one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in...rooms lovely and clean....beds are so comfy..and the evening meal and breakfast was lovely...good choice of everything you could ask for...the stalk on reception were very courteous and friendly...and the staff in the dining room were second to none... especially the young man who worked there...not sure but I believe his name was alphesd...sorry if spelling is not right....but I really wanted to give him a good review...very friendly and cracking jokes all of the time.... Excellent!!!... definitely give this holiday inn top marks...and absolutely no complaints from us at all...

I was due to stay with the property for an overnight stay in April to visit an uncle in Bolton. However, on the day of travel/check-in, I received bad news from my uncle that his friend had passed away and he would be travelling to Luton immediately.
I received this news at 17:45 when I was due to travel at 18:00 (travelling from Glasgow for a late check-in). I appreciate the free cancellation deadline was 16:00; however, given the late notification and the circumstances surrounding the cancellation, I thought there might be understanding and gesture of good faith (e.g. maybe not a refund but a voucher for use at their property on a different date).
There was no such understanding or acknowledgement. I had booked the stay through Booking.com who, as would be expected, relied on the fact it was the property's decision so they couldn't/wouldn't do anything on my behalf but pass on the request to waive the cancellation fee. The property eventually replied with two words: "request declined" (see attachment) and no explanation. I thought it was rather poor customer service as there was no acknowledgement of personal circumstances or an attempt to stick to their policy. What added salt to injury is that I was due to travel with my sister and brother-in-law and they were able to cancel their room after 16:00 without cancellation fees. I would expect consistency — either we both paid the fee or we both didn't. But there you have it...
I must stress that my review is purely regarding the quality of customer service (or lack thereof), not of the property or any of their on-site services or amenities.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Bolton for 2 nights. It was the friendliest hotel I ever stayed in in terms of the staff & the service was outstanding. In particular there was a man working at breakfast called Alpesh who was extremely friendly, helpful & welcoming and who seemed to really love his job & couldn't do enough for us. The other staff were also extremely helpful, curteous & well-mannered. The bar area & the breakfast area were light, airy and modern with a great selection of choices for breakfast. It is a brilliant hotel & I definitely will stay again!

On arrival my double bed was downgraded to two single beds that could b pushed together, but it wasn't just me it was everyone who was checking in after 5pm! It felt like anyone checking in later was given these rooms. I complained and was met with sarcasm and patronising comments. I decided to complain to head office and I received an apology I was advised to go back and speak to the hotel manager.
I went back and luckily the duty manager was working (even though he was hospitality not rooms) he moved me into a room with a double bed apologised to me.
