Myself & my husband have been coming to Torquay for 40 years, stayed in many hotels with our children & now their children. So for a treat we decided to visit the indigo & we have stayed here twice this year, in June & August for our wedding anniversary & we are due to return in October & bringing two of our friends, however, our second visit wasn’t as good as June, the room was fabulous, the view incredible. The dining staff are super helpful & friendly, bar one who clearly would’ve rather have been somewhere else, although on the Saturday night we wanted to eat in the restaurant and it appeared to be very chaotic & no one knowing what the other was doing The reception staff were friendly enough on arrival but clearly if several guests arrived at once, they didn’t seem to cope very well & check in was rather rushed On departure we asked to book again in October & was told to go & check it out on- line & call the hotel direct. The receptionist was not interested Also I was told that “£100” damage fee would be back on my card by Monday, we rang the hotel on Tuesday & the receptionist was very flippant & said “I’ll press the button” it’s now Friday & we are still chasing it up, this time we were told oh it takes up to 5 days to be refunded We are a little disappointed with all this & are reconsidering returning in October I understand it’s all still new but basic manners cost nothing but could cost you lots

The hotel looks lovely, it has been decorated to a high standard. We went for food and drinks at the rooftop bar so I can’t comment on the rooms. The view is beautiful inside and outside seating. The drinks were nice although no draft beer. Service was lacking unfortunately our food was bad stale bao buns, we left them no one came to clear the table or ask us if the food was ok, they could obviously see it wasn’t good. When we were leaving I did say we didn’t like the food and she said that’s ok! Strange response. A shame as we would of come here a lot.

My son, dog & I had a wonderful few days at Hotel Indigo. We had a room with a sea view, which we'd definitely recommend. It was like having a huge living piece of artwork to admire, changing each hour. The breakfast was lovely with lots of choices. Staff were very friendly/helpful. Great location for South West Coast Path - 20 minutes walk to Torquay harbour or bus stop to get 22 right outside. Buses were reliable, clean, new & great value.

⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ 4/5 – Beautiful Hotel, But Our Arrival Was Extremely Stressful We recently stayed at Hotel Indigo for three nights, and I have mixed feelings about our experience. Firstly, the hotel itself is absolutely beautiful. The grounds are stunning, the rooms are lovely, the beds are incredibly comfortable, and the location is fantastic. Having bus stops right outside made it easy to explore the area without needing the car. The food was good too—not the best we’ve ever had, but certainly enjoyable, with enough choice for everyone at both breakfast and dinner. Unfortunately, our holiday got off to a very upsetting start. When we arrived, there was an issue with our booking that appeared to have been caused by the central reservations team. We had booked two rooms for two adults and three children, including a rollaway bed, but the hotel’s system showed only one adult in each room and one child. Because of this, we were initially told we would need to pay extra for the rollaway bed, an upgrade, and the children’s breakfasts, despite having been assured by central reservations that everything had already been included. The gentleman helping us on reception was polite and genuinely trying to resolve the issue. However, another member of the reception team repeatedly interrupted him and spoke over both him and me. I found her manner patronising and intimidating, particularly as there were other guests standing behind us watching the situation unfold. It became so overwhelming that I asked my mum and the children to wait outside while I tried to sort everything out. This trip was meant to be a chance to escape what has been an incredibly difficult year for our family. We chose to stay in the UK because my aunt has been seriously ill in hospital, and my mum wanted to remain close enough to get back quickly if needed. Instead of arriving and relaxing, I found myself in tears at reception. Thankfully, Amy, the manager, was exceptional. She listened, understood the situation, and worked hard to put things right. She arranged for us not to pay any additional charges and did everything she could to make us feel welcome. The following day, she upgraded us to a beautiful sea-view suite, which was greatly appreciated. However, despite Amy’s efforts, we had already lost the majority of our first day. We left home at 8am expecting to check in at the usual time, but we didn’t get into our rooms until around 5:55pm. By then we were exhausted, had missed the day we’d paid for, and simply went for dinner before bed. The following day we then had to pack everything up again and move rooms, which meant spending more of our holiday dealing with luggage rather than relaxing. We also ended up on different floors initially, which wasn’t ideal as my mum uses a walking stick. Before leaving, I apologised to the receptionist for becoming upset because I don’t normally react that way. She acknowledged that I’d been upset but never apologised for how the situation had been handled, which was disappointing. A simple apology would have gone a long way. Overall, the hotel is genuinely lovely. The rooms are beautiful, the location is excellent, the grounds are well maintained, and the majority of the staff were friendly and helpful. Amy deserves special recognition for her professionalism and for doing everything she could to rescue what had become a very stressful start to our holiday. My only advice to anyone booking would be to double-check every detail of your reservation before you arrive, particularly if you’ve booked through the central reservations team. Hopefully, you’ll avoid the stress that we experienced. Despite everything, we enjoyed our stay once things were resolved. It’s just a shame that a three-night break felt more like 1 night with packing everything agin because of the time lost dealing with booking issues and the room move.

I was looking for room with balcony for 3 nights, there were no balcony rooms available online, so we called the hotel. There was availability for 2 nights and we got given a very good price. Turns out the price given was per night, which I didn't realise. I confirmed the booking over the phone and gave my banking details. When we arrived at the hotel, we were surprised of the price and got told the price we were given was per night, and not the total stay. We were offered 'any' drinks and snacks vouchers as a gesture of goodwill. When we tried to use them in the rooftop bar, we were told they didn't apply to certain items and that there were no snacks. The room itself was a reasonable size, but it had a very large en-suite bathroom that felt like wasted space. The balcony only received sunlight just on the edge for about one to two hours in the morning. Because of the roof above it, it was impossible to enjoy the sun or sunbathe for the rest of the day. Another major issue was the noise of cars and bikes passing infront of the hotel. On Friday night, noise of music continued throughout the night. At first, I thought it might be coming from people spending the night out beside the hotel near the beach, but after breakfast the next morning, when we went to sit on the hotel's terrace, I noticed speakers installed there that were playing music and had been left on all night. Because we had left our balcony door open, we had noise of music throughout the night and the combined with the traffic noise, it completely took away the peaceful atmosphere you expect when paying a premium for a seafront room with a balcony. The room service and housekeeping were very poor. When we arrived, one of the tea mugs had a chipped rim and had tea stains inside. In the evening, I called and asked for drinking water and cups. After waiting two to three hours, I had to call again. Eventually, they brought the water, but without any cups or mugs. The mirror in the room had not been cleaned before our arrival, and you could still see spray marks left by the previous guests. On the first day, there was no bath mat or floor towel beside the shower, although I didn't ask for one. Housekeeping provided it on the second day. I was expecting them to replace the bathrobe on second day which wasn't, but that was ok with us. There was a small wooden table on the balcony that we had used the previous evening and brought inside to use. It wasn't cleaned. I also left the chipped tea mug next to another used one on that table so that both would be replaced, but instead they put the same chipped mug back beside the tea and coffee facilities. Later that afternoon, I had to request another mug again. A member of staff came to the room, I explained the situation, and they apologised. We also ordered a pizza and chose to take it to our room ourselves, as room delivery costs extra. We waited 45 minutes. When I asked why it was taking so long, I was told it had actually been ready for about 10 minutes, but nobody had informed us even though we were sitting there waiting. It was extremely frustrating, and by then the pizza had become cold. I would not recommend the balcony room given its premium price. The hotel service and attention to detail need significant improvement.
