Long before the theme park closed, I was done. Absolutely exhausted from all the rides. If that’s not testament to a great day out, then I don’t know what is. But alas, my daughter made me stay til the 9pm close so we absolutely got our money’s worth.
While other theme parks can be disappointing with rides that leave you wanting a bit more, Hyperia and The Swarm, for me, were perfect.
I also like how Thorpe Park has separate queues for the front for many of the rides which, surprisingly, were not as long as you might think. So we got to go to the front of all the major rides… although we just got lucky with Hyperia as they don’t have such a line there.
The food was, as expected, ridiculously overpriced. But on the plus side, the £18 refillable fizzy drinks were absolutely worth it.
We also didn’t have to queue for longer than about half an hour for any of the rides (although we did do the whole sprint to Hyperia at 10am thing), as the app tells you which rides have the shortest queues.
We did, however, have silver fast-track passes which allow you to beat the queues for five major rides (not Hyperia). This, by the way, was ample - we absolutely didn’t need to spend more on “better” passes.
Plan the day right and it’s a great trip out.
We drove 4 hours on Sunday evening and paid to stay in a nearby hotel. We got to the park for 9am and was let in around 10am. We had 2 really excited kids to ride the swarm first. As we was let in to the park, we was greeted with the swarm being closed, disappointed we decided to move along the park to saw. Arrived at Saw, it was closed!! Starting to feel a little deflated, we saw on the app that stealth was open, by the time we got there. It was closed!!!! We asked a member of staff why the rides were all closed, by this time it was 10.25. Their reply was “it could be to delayed testing” the park opens at 10?! Almost feels wrong that you pay all this money and they’re ok with rides not being open. Doesn’t seem fair.
After this, we saw Colossus was open so we got on that fairly quickly and the kids loved it. We managed 1 more ride in the next 2 hours as the rides were opening and closing. It was incredibly hot so we purchased the refillable cups at £18 each. The kids didn’t manage 1 cold drink all day from the refill machines, there was no ice and the fluids warm. We had to purchase other products drinks/ice lollies to keep them cool. Even had to ask at a beer stand for ice and water as I was desperate to cool one of the kids that was struggling with the heat.
Stealth opened and then closed whilst in the queue. We waited for so long to get on the ride. It then opened and within 60 seconds the staff come running off telling us to evacuate quickly as there was a fire! (At this point we was regretting the huge drive and huge expense). We was told we would get a fast pass for another ride, we never received this.
We stayed until 9pm as we really didn’t want to come all this way for nothing but my god it was actually painful!
The staff also, are pretty rude! There was a few lovely members but the majority are quite rude, almost forgetting they choose to work in a theme park full of excited children. There was one ride where the guy on the speaker threatened to delay a ride for longer if some people didn’t stop leaning/sitting on the queue fence) it was 33 degrees and we had been sat still in this queue for an hour whilst they tried to fix the ride (a little mean)
Ultimately, we went on hardly anything due to ride closures, we spent money on over priced stuff whilst the quality provided once they have your money was really lame.
This park is too expensive for what it is. If you’re looking for something a little more magical go to Alton Towers!

Dear Customer Services Team,
I am writing to formally express my disappointment regarding my visit to Thorpe Park today and to request a full refund for the tickets purchased through your website.
My fiancée and I were extremely excited about this visit, as it was a long-awaited dream of ours to experience Thorpe Park and enjoy some of its most famous attractions. Unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing from start to finish.
Several of the main rides we had specifically travelled to experience were repeatedly placed into testing mode throughout the day. We waited in queues for long periods while staff carried out test cycles, only to eventually be informed that the rides would not be operating. This happened on three separate attractions that we had especially hoped to experience.
We were only able to ride Hyperia after an extremely long wait, where we encountered another serious issue. My fiancée has significant vision difficulties and relies entirely on her prescription glasses to see properly. At no point were we warned that there was any risk of losing glasses on the ride, nor were we advised to remove or safely store them beforehand.
Unfortunately, during the ride, she lost her glasses. We attempted to seek assistance from staff, however we did not receive clear guidance or adequate support regarding how to proceed. After extensive searching ourselves, we eventually located the appropriate contact form online and submitted a lost property report. We are still awaiting an update.
This incident caused considerable distress, particularly as my fiancée is currently unable to drive without her glasses, which created further inconvenience and disruption to our journey home.
In addition, we purchased the unlimited refill drinks cup, yet after visiting more than five refill stations across the park, we found that most machines had no proper soft drink options available. Only a few poor-quality warm drink options were available, with no ice provided.
Due to the repeated ride closures, the loss of my fiancée’s glasses, the lack of assistance provided, and the poor refreshment service, the day was unfortunately ruined for us. We were so disappointed that we chose to leave the park early and return home.
As we are currently on holiday and returning to our home country later this week, this was a very special visit for us and one we had looked forward to for a long time. Sadly, the experience fell far below reasonable expectations.
Given the circumstances, I would respectfully request a full refund for our tickets and reimbursement for the refill drinks purchase, or alternatively an appropriate resolution reflecting the significant disruption and disappointment caused.
I would appreciate your prompt response and look forward to hearing how this matter can be resolved.

My visit to Thorpe Park was a bit mixed overall. The park definitely has a lot of potential and the roller coasters are without question among the best attractions you can experience in a European theme park. Hyperia in particular was incredibly impressive and was clearly the highlight of the day for me. The other major coasters were also excellent and delivered exactly the level of thrill you would expect from a park like this. Anyone who enjoys intense roller coasters will definitely have a great time here.
That said, there are unfortunately a few areas where I feel Thorpe Park could place a bit more focus on the overall guest experience. In many places, the park unfortunately felt somewhat neglected. There were noticeable cobwebs, litter and generally untidy areas throughout the park. While this may seem like a minor issue at first, it really does affect the atmosphere more than you might expect. For a well-known park like Thorpe Park, I would hope for a greater focus on cleanliness and attention to detail, as it would make the overall experience feel far more polished and welcoming.
The flat rides also did not fully convince me personally. Compared to the excellent roller coasters, many of them felt more like travelling fairground attractions and lacked the same level of quality and immersion. It is very clear that the park’s main focus is on the large thrill coasters.
Another point I noticed was the organisation and guest interaction at some of the attractions. At Hyperia especially, the operations often felt unnecessarily rushed. Of course, I completely understand that the staff are trying to maintain high throughput and keep queues moving as efficiently as possible. However, as a guest, it sometimes felt more like being hurried through the experience rather than being able to properly enjoy it. The very loud and repeated announcements telling guests to board more quickly made the atmosphere feel rather tense at times. Announcements stating that bags would be taken from guests if they were not quick enough also came across as slightly unfriendly in my opinion. I do understand the intention behind it, but a calmer and more welcoming approach would probably make the experience much more enjoyable for everyone.
Interestingly, at Gold Rush I experienced almost the opposite issue. Staff sometimes only began filling the rows once the train had already fully arrived in the station, despite there being plenty of space at the gates to prepare guests in advance. This created unnecessary delays and made the queue feel artificially longer than it needed to be. With slightly more efficient organisation, the operations there could probably be improved quite significantly without creating additional stress for either guests or staff.
In these areas especially, I believe Thorpe Park could take some inspiration from Europa-Park. Europa-Park demonstrates very well that fast and efficient operations can still feel calm, friendly and welcoming at the same time. In addition, the park stands out for its cleanliness, attention to detail and staff who remain professional and approachable even on very busy days. That combination plays a huge role in creating a positive overall experience.
Despite the points mentioned above, I still had a good day at Thorpe Park and the roller coasters in particular will remain a very positive memory. With a bit more focus on cleanliness, atmosphere and a more relaxed approach to guest interaction, I genuinely believe the park could offer an even better overall experience in the future.
