  Good central location, 10 minute walk from the station and a short walk to the city centre. The hotel was clean and staff were friendly, the room was as you would expect. The price point was fairly high so 4* for the room as it was starting to look a little dated.

  Unfortunately, the worst, most complex, and unwelcoming check-in (and entry) experience from any hotel I've stayed at. Arriving late (after midnight, due to flights), the receptionist was late to the ring, as the door was locked. Over the phone, the receptionist completely refused entry, in the most uninterested manner, until a booking number is provided. As the booking was done via a 3rd party corporate travel arranger, I didn't have the Premier Inn booking number. Eventually I was let in, but in a party of 3, the others had to wait outside; apparently, that's the hotel policy! Once inside, the check-in was far from straightforward despite providing the name which matched the system. I was eventually told I "needed" to make a "courtesy call" to let them know we'd arrive late. They continued to explain this was the hotel policy since joining them in 2020. I get that safety is important, but the staff's attitude was simply unacceptable and unhelpful. A system which requires the booking reference, and not a name, to grant entry to the reception is impractical given that some guests might not have a booking reference. Before getting the keys, I was asked to make the full payment despite the booking being pre-paid, and the hotel having the travel agent credit card on record. Again, the same reception staff was completely unhelpful and simply not willing to engage in a conversation, until his colleague (who was far more helpful and actually knew how to use the system), allowed the check-in. The receptionist did not know how to authorise the pre-paid booking and had to ask his colleague to complete the check-in. The room and breakfast were perfectly fine and in line with other Premier Inns (I've stayed here before and this was my go to hotel in Southampton). It's a shame that some of the hotel staff are completely unhelpful and do not have the right experience (even when operating basic check-in systems, let alone being welcoming).

  The location is very convenient walking distance from everything. I used self check in which was easy and quick. the hotel itself was a bit run down with the rooms needing tlc, unfortunately there was damp spots and mould in the bathroom but no smell thankfully. bed was comfy and the hotel was quiet so got a good nights sleep. hopefully they’ll fix the mould in the rooms as i’ve seen other reviews with it in too.

  The food was great 👍 the steak, pizza, spaghetti Bolognese burgers,all great, the steak I had was not dry and was juicey, wonderful but nicely chard on the outside, there is no, on site parking so preplanning is recommended if you driving, staff were wonderful present very welcomeing and helpful aircon in the rooms

  No staff when we arrived. Self check in on screens, which only worked for 1 of our rooms so had to find staff member to check in manually. Floors as you walk in and at Reception very dirty and obviously not cleaned regularly. 1 room was 'ok' (hence my 2 stars) but 2nd room smelt of damp and the ceiling tiles were stained. The sheets on one of the beds were dirty (looked like bird poo) and as no phone in room we went down to ask for clean sheets. Nobody on Reception, despite ringing the bell several times we had to go to the bar and requested clean sheets. They never arrived so kids slept in bed with adults. Nobody around on checkout to complain so Have complained to Premier Inn online. Lucky it was only for 1 night and was quite near Southampton Port!
