Poorly run dangerous establishment that does not take complaints seriously. They will end up killing someone. I am physically damaged as a result of having to walk miles in the pitch black alone to the hotel down a 60mph a road with no pavement (incl diving out of the way of oncoming traffic) after their receptionist decided it was not her job to answer the phone on a Sunday evening, she then lied to my face and said that nothing had come through. I raised a complaint with the desk the next day, calling the same number for reception whilst standing there and listening to it ring, instead of taking responsibility the 2nd receptionist responded stating "maybe you didn't have reception" as if I do not know how to use a phone. I then raised a formal complaint. The staff here apparently have little to no training and are avoiding to do their jobs, this reception situation is an echo of the broader culture that is managing this hotel, you would be better off at Fawlty Towers. I could go into the errant toenail clipping, old stale peanut and other people's hair that greeted me in my room, the lack of basic reading effort for house keeping dnd or the constant banging and thumping you can hear from other guests walking around or going in and out of your building, plus quite a few other things, however I thought the danger to life was probably more important. I cancelled £160 worth of spa treatments and ate elsewhere as I was not spending money with them after this. Staff on reception gave the meaningless apologies, so I expect worse to happen to others in future. Stay here at your peril! FYI there is no public transport, taxi service or roadside pavement/footpath available here in the evenings so if you manage to get stuck away from this place you will be stranded. The walks in this area are not on Google maps and following a signposted trail one way does not mean it will be open for the return route. Their ops manager has responded to my complaint and taken 0 accountability, the attitude here is so dismissive, I can imagine worse has happened that they have covered up. You can also call up IHG and complain, as well as any booking platforms you may have used. By the looks of the voco staff's attitude though I would say cover up culture is all you will get.

I stayed here for 1 night, with dinner and breakfast and spa use. Let's start with the spa- quick check in and great location with lounges outside, the spa needs some renovation, with many of the lockers not working in both the male and females rooms. The spa itself has a decent size pool, the loungers outside are nice but on busy periods you may have to wait. The drinks in the spa are basic, I expected more variety and would have been great if it was not from a can. The rooms are nice butttt very small and good luck with a view, we had a bush to look at, not nice. I will just add on at this point we had to call 3 times to get a bottle of wine sent over to our too and each time we waiting over 10 to 15 minutes. Food, ....if you eat meat you will be fine but if you are vegetarian or vegan then this place will be a major let down. The dinner options main course only 1 option and that too was a substitute. Starters are fine, but I felt the falafel beetroot was from a gosh packet, the mozzarella salad was nice and the cocktails in the restaurant were nice. The staff was good, polite and accommodating. The best part is the location, great views and immersed in nature. Overall the place is nice but needs a major renovation and more food options.

Stayed here Friday til Sunday , my only criticism is on the restaurant side, does not cater for vegetarians on the menu for the evening meal, ate out at the Georgian coppa hotel for food. Breakfast was ok but did chase up for some cups and glasses for our party of 7 and condiments not on the table sauces came when asked for so another wait whilst food on the table . It’s the little things that add up when you pay the amount for the room! Reception side excellent . Room lovely comfy and clean

It looks really special and there is a history behind the building. However, there are fundamental issues. Room descriptions are vague and it is different to tell if you got the room you paid for - I booked a king suite but was told the queen was an upgrade? The amenities are basic for 4 stars and things like water which is advertised as being in the rooms is missing and the coffee pod machine - available at most other voco locations was missing. There is space for a mini fridge but they have been removed/left out. There are plenty of plug sockets though and moisturiser and conditioner in the bathroom. The dining and bar area and comfortable but the young staff members (who were very helpful and polite) are definitely in over their heads and there was no manager to oversee and support them. The coffee machine milk frother was broken at breakfast and they had no other machine so there was just cold milk available. As a 4 stars venue this is woeful. The 'Spa' was really a pool with a steam room and sauna around the side with a broken cold jet shower. There was a Scottish bath (a bucket of cold water above your head with a chain to pull it ) to provide a cold plunge - but it was super slow and as such ineffective. Sauna and steam decent temperatures and being by the pool means you can use them while your (sensible & older) children swim and you can keep an eye on them. But it's not a spa. Most of the lockers don't lock either. The outside sundeck is nice in our current weather. The grounds are pleasant with a wild garden theme. Overall it could be so lovely but currently it's not worth the price and I would not say it's 4 stars.
