Loved the stay, everyone was lovely, room was clean and honestly I had a superb night's sleep, bed lovely, black out blinds, air con allowed me to be comfortable, TV great, iron and board in room. All in all was very pleased with a night stay here. Only thing I would have to say which was a shame was there was no shampoo or lotion in the bottles when I was in the shower which was a bit of an annoyance but luckily I had brought some anyhow, however nipping out the shower wasn't ideal. The receptionist was very apologetic though. Location is perfect if you are attending an event at NEC. Reason the shampoo didn't lose it a star was because I actually left my sunglasses in the room, wasn't sure, just knew I had lost them while I was at the event the next day. Despite calling through and being told they hadn't been found I went back to the hotel after the event to double check. The man behind the desk, who looked like a manager was absolutely superb, very kind, he realised that a pair had been entered into the system the previous day (perhaps why they weren't found when I called?) and got someone to go and bring them to see if they were mine. They were. He also took off the parking charge for the second visit. Very nice, kind and reassuring while I was waiting he kept me talking. Honestly I was over the moon to have found them, he could've just said no like the person on the phone did but he went to the extra effort and really made my day.
Thank you so very much.
The hotel and team are excellent but we would have liked the opportunity to have been able to book an evening meal on the day we arrived. Instead we were told there was no availability to have a meal at the hotel at a reasonable time and they sent us away to find a place away from the hotel

Great hotel near the NEC. Prices were good for the area considering it is near the Airport and Birmingham NEC. We stayed here whilst going to the Anime Convention, room was tidy and spacious and checkin was fast. Do note they charge an extra £50 and then refund a certain amount depending on the amount of amenities you use such as the water they put in your room, hence the 4 stars. I assume this is put in the T&Cs in small print that nobody reads, so is a little scammy
Was disappointed with our stay, having stayed at other crowne plaza sites and had great experiences, we were looking forward to this one. However, rooms were dated, we had to ask for more towels and pillows (three of us in room and only 1 set of towels). This took three attempts to get, although was then brought up quickly.
The fire alarm went off at 1.33am which isn't the hotels fault but there was no apology on check out, so a disturbed night's sleep.
Breakfast was nice and staff were friendly.
Overall, I wouldn't rush back and disappointed with the amount we paid to stay here.
Dreadful.
Me and my father came here for a convention usually we stay in the getting hotel next door Which we love but they ran out of rooms so we decided to stay in the crowne plaza instead. At first we thought the hotel was quite nice, the lobby was clean and modern and had a nice open air feel to it. The reception staff were okay, a tad dull but I was happy to overlook it because of the lovely lobby. However, it seems as if I had been sold a misleading entrance as after the short trip in the delicate but surprisingly quick lift it was like I had just ridden in a time machine back to 1995. The corridors has this distinct elderly people's home feel to them and this was more distinctive upon seeing my room. It was OLD really outdated.
The furniture of the room looked like it was ready to retire! The fit and finish and it's furnishings were so rickety it was practically falling apart, as was the door to the mini fridge cupboard, which was suffering hinge sag due to gravity because it was so old. The tables were covered in chips all over the wood and there was this bizzare looking corporate style office chair that appeared to be from the late 1990's/early 2000s. It had a very grey texture to the once vibrant red fabric It was upholstered with and giving it a light pat revealed the fur-like layers of dust caked upon it from decades of use. The beds were also not great, they were on wheels meaning they kept moving about and because I am a larger person who tends to shuffle about in bed It kept moving around constantly, Which quickly became an annoyance. Also it would have been nice to have more pillows and towels which were also lacking.
It's not all bad though it does seem that the bathroom has at least seen a modern hand because it's clean and modern but I can't say that for the rest of the room. Not a fan of no menu or guide for room service and hotel facilities just a QR code. I did not even know there was an on-site gym and the staff did not even discuss any of the facilities upon booking. The room service is vastly overpriced but at least the AC worked which was a plus considering how hot the weather has been recently, so I am grateful for that. Although I did notice in the morning when room service were in the corridors, they had several large white fans and based off of some of the other reviews, it seems like we got lucky with our air conditioning not failing. The area The hotel is in is very quiet but I wasn't a fan of being near the entrance and exit for food deliveries as we heard some bottles being moved around early in the morning. There is a nice lake view for some rooms, however the price does not justify the quality of room.
Frankly I would have been happier if the hotel/IHG chose to invest in room refurbishment rather than the lobby.
IHG needs to keep a closer eye on their competitors as the price of a premier inn/ premier inn plus Room is far superior in terms of value for money and is very modern. The staff in the breakfast were very nice and the breakfast was decent but was crucially missing the black pudding and tea services were limited, there was a coffee machine though.
Overall this hotel has the necessary amenities but it is not a comfortable or welcoming stay in my opinion. I don't believe it is worthy of its four star and positive reviews. I have noticed though that some of the rooms looked to be more modern than others. I understand I had booked the cheapest room but the cheapest room does not mean it should be the standard of a room 20 years old. That is just shocking. It's very basic. A place to rest your head. But not great. Definitely not luxury. The staff were nice though, a bit dull but nice and the breakfast was decent enough and the bathroom was good so it's not all bad but the main issues do stem from the age of the rooms. It is definitely time for some money to be invested there.
