Air conditioning unit not working, louvres did not open, reception advised it hadn't been activated and did so; 20 minutes later still not working. It was 25C+ and a second fan was given. Bathroom tile missing and key cards didn't work on our 2nd day. A little disappointing 😞.
2nd time here. Staff friendly. Room ok. Thought we had a good discount being a member of IHG hotels, but the room is substandard with a double bed and not king like I thought we were getting.

A perfect stay.
Firstly, I'd like to say that this is an Express hotel. It is not designed to be a luxury experience.
The room had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable. Like many old hotels, they have a bit of a drainage issue so the toilet was mildly smelly, but we just closed the door and it was fine.
The location is great. A little out of town so super quiet at the weekend but town is not far at all by car.
The thing that makes this hotel an excellent place to stay are the staff. The manager we spoke to had excellent managerial skills. If you had a realistic problem that could be solved, she would sort it. We had no issues other than arriving too late for breakfast to have hash browns!
Alicia is a star member, always smiling and very knowledgeable, but Emily and Cece were also amazing. All of the staff we met were friendly and welcoming. If we had any questions, no matter how unusual (like the meaning of certain rarely used words), they were happy to help. I cannot praise them enough.
So happy to have chosen this hotel and would stay again next time I'm in the area.

Obviously you get what you pay for. Working in hospitality myself, as a courtesy to the cleaning staff, I always strip the bed and do a bit of a tidy up before checking out.
I think you will know what’s coming…
Having stripped the bed, I was horrified to find multiple stains on the mattress cover. There was what looked like a blood stain the size of a melon and a urine stain the size of a beach ball amongst other smaller stains. See photos.
They actually don’t do justice to the horror story of what I found. Sometimes there can be one member of staff who is lacking but in this instance, I feel Holiday Inn have been disappointing in their response. They did apologise - but that was all.
It seems The Holiday Inn’s standards of customer care have very much slipped along with the basic standards of hygiene and cleanliness.
Great staff, very friendly and helpful, especially Zara who went above and beyond to help me and my wife.
Only criticism is breakfast needs a bit of work. It's a small space so gets overcrowded and the food seems rushed, so the quality was compromised. I also feel sorry for the staff as the hot food would quickly run out and they constantly had to explain that more was on its way.
