I was there in business trip for the full week - during the heatwave. No problems I thought, it’s a 4-stars hotel with air conditioning. Except that this had been broken for weeks (they ommit to tell you that when checking in) and when I came back to ask for a change of room, I was handled with a table fan. Windows do not open, and the staff refused to do so, despite having over 30 degrees in the room, which was impossible to air. i feel that the staff wasn’t helpfull considering the extraordinary weather conditions could and SHOULD have allowed opening Windows, and offered water bottles for their guests in the room.
The bathroom was small and the hotel overall old dated and not spot clean, there was no mini fridge, and i had to blow my hair dry in the room as the small bathroow did not have matching plugs for the appliances. It’s a 3 star at most, it’s located nearby the sea but aside from it’s location there’s no charm to it. Very disappointing stay indeed.

During my recent visit to Portsmouth, I stay at this holiday in. I booked a single room.
Upon arrival on the hottest day of the year, temperatures over 90 degrees, i was informed by reception staff, that there was no working air conditioning in the rooms. Apparently its been broken for weeks. One guest at reception asked for a refund and left the hotel that I saw.
The staff were friendly and helpful but, its unacceptable to not have aircon in a holiday inn? 🥵
My room was so hot 🔥 I almost passed out with heat stroke. I couldn't even open the windows fully as they have restrictors fitted. And there are no fridges in the rooms so you can keep water cold in bottles.
If I hadn't been so hot I wouldn't of demanded my money back and looked for another hotel.
I went down for an evening meal and there was a sign saying kitchen closed. Because of staff shortages. Its ridiculous how they run this hotel. No aircon and no food.
I wouldn't visit this holiday inn again and wouldn't recommend it either. Try travel lodge or a premier inn. Cheaper and better rooms 👎🏽

Appalling experience. Air conditioning out of order in bedrooms but they did not mention this when we dropped off our case at 10am nor when we checked in at 5pm. Been out of order for weeks and 'waiting for a part'. It was 34 degrees outside and window opened about 3". When I complained they were still checking in guests but not telling them. Appalling way to treat guests.

I was very disappointed with my stay at the Holiday Inn Portsmouth. The price of the room did not match the quality I received. The room felt very outdated, and the bathroom had noticeable dust and buildup, giving the impression that it had not been cleaned thoroughly. Overall, the accommodations fell well below the standards I have come to expect from Holiday Inn.
The customer service was equally disappointing. I approached the night staff with a question and was ignored by Jolly, who turned around and walked away without acknowledging me or providing any assistance. Fortunately, Jack was able to help me afterward and provided the assistance I needed, which I appreciated. However, the rude interaction with Jolly left a lasting negative impression and made me feel unwelcome.
Overall, I found the stay to be poor value for the money, and the combination of the outdated room, cleanliness concerns, and poor customer service made for a very disappointing experience. Unfortunately, I would not choose to stay here again.
Oh and good luck getting any sleep, the walls are paper thin!
