This hotel is honestly one of the worst I have ever "stayed at". Turned up with a booking made through the IHG app, only to be told that their new booking system allowed them to overbook 14 (!) people, so they didn't have a room for me. The manager on site then told me they will call other IHG hotels in a 10 mile radius, if they don't have a room either, then "there's nothing we can do". After spending 30 minutes in the ridiculously hot reception (the air conditioning has been broken since May according to some signage, and that during one of the worst heatwaves ever in the UK), they finally found a room for me at the Holiday Inn in Southsea. I then had to spend £10 on an Uber to get there. It's difficult for me to say anything positive about this experience - I have stayed at 100s of hotels all over the world and never experienced something like this before.

Excellent location.Very friendly staff.Breakfast was very good.Being vegetarian, they made us vegetarian sausages. Air conditioning working perfectly. Very comfortable stay

Not a four star. Air con not working!!! Very cheap toilet paper. Bed awful even with the very thin mattress topper. Needs a memory foam mattress. Lumpy pillows Not enough sockets. Rooms needs updating. .... Positives ... Wonderful location. You step out the door to shops and restaurants. Lovely staff that are helpful, caring and friendly. These guys need a medal ! Clean bathroom and bedroom. Good breakfast.

Dreadful experience at the HIE Gunwharf. No A/C on the hottest days of the year made it virtually impossible to sleep, despite four fans in the room. The A/C has been out since early March 2026 and won’t be available at least until June - brutal. They tried to make up for it with free ice cream and canned water but some of the staff weren’t exactly excited to provide these when requested; they’re rightfully crabby too since they have to work basically in a sauna. Our room was small and old. Not recommended.
