  Great location on the Quayside, overlooking the SAGE centre in Gateshead. Hotel is looking a little tired and worn in some places. That said, the restaurant staff and reception staff were very helpful. The biggest irritation was that despite hanging the 'please service my room' label on the door on three separate occasions, my room wasn't tidied in an eight day stay.

  Welcome Sarah, I have stayed here going on for or just over 20 nights. Sarah is new and very very very helpful. We got discussing the evening menu and she was great at giving tips on what to order as my requirements and annoying to deal with but she made some epic meal choices. Friendly, welcoming and speedy, there was no queue so gave me that extra 2 minutes to add value to the service. I have worked in retail over 16 years and 5 of them as a manager. Top class service, much better than some others I have previously had here is its dry can’t really be bothered attitude. Turning things around 😁 Julie was also there and just adding to the experience so don’t feel left out you were also 10/10

  The whole hotel had a strong horrible smell. The room was clearly very old and the bathroom sink and shower were marked and felt unclean. The bed was the only thing that felt clean. One of the lights in the already dingy room didn’t work and the shower-head only worked with the bath tap still running so you had to keep turning it off so as not to overflow into the bathroom. Usually I can trust Premier Inn to be basic, but clean and comfortable. This was not the case this time and I’m glad we were only staying the one night.

  Parking here is a huge scam and I wish I'd chosen more wisely. A parking space costs £13.20 per night, paid in advance on arrival, but there's less than 20 spaces and they're all unreserved - come back to the hotel from a long day of work and it's full, with the gates locked, leaving you out of pocket with nowhere to put a work van in a city centre. They are obviously overselling car parking and just pocketing the excess cash. Premier Inn staff don't want to know, as their own basement car park is apparently run by a separate company, with nothing more than an iPad and a credit card reader to have a conversation with. There are obviously frequent complaints, judging by the big disclaimers about your money being nonrefundable once the car park is full. Really predatory business model. Disabled people are not exempt either - There are NO blue badge spaces. You're out of luck once the first 20 punters are in for the night. Also, the lack of air conditioning and plugs by the bed is rubbish (especially for medical equipment users like CPAP machines). I had to ask reception for an extension lead, which must happen a lot, because they had one immediately to hand. The building is quite historic, but it's unfortunate that the beautiful stone facade is covered in anti-pigeon netting, because it makes the windows impossible to clean - and they are so filthy you can barely see the view. Also, the sash window counterweights were broken in my room by someone clumsily painting over the running lines, and so they hardly stay open. I would definitely not come back here, especially if you need to park. Blue Badge users beware.

  Generally Premier Inns are superb but on this occasion those standards slipped. We didn’t complain because for us these weren’t really problematic. The service remains unchanged, kind and polite as you might expect. The fan in the bathroom didn’t work, thus when you had a shower the bathroom steamed up, you had to be some kind of ventriloquist when reaching for the loo roll and the TV had an annoying delay when using the remote control. The location for us is great, in the French Quarter which a beautiful area to be. We parked using the side street, parking charges only applied from 8am to 6pm, but spaces are limited. I think last night we paid for the last hour which was £1.35 and it was just round the corner.
