Starting with the positives, ALL the staff that we came across couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. Despite the room being tired looking and quite dismal, it was spotlessly clean, and the bathroom looked brand new - with fabulous thick white towels. Credit to the cleaning staff! The bed was extremely comfortable, the air con was perfect, and we enjoyed an excellent night's sleep. The hotel was clean throughout, though the spa area and pool had elements of debris caused by inconsiderate guests. This seems to be a common thread.
There was plenty of car parking space, check-in was seamless, and the very helpful lady on Reception phoned to tell us when the pool had been re-opened, after a small maintenance issue. The corridor to the room was awful - very dim, and looked like something out of a Stephen King movie! It certainly wasn't bright and welcoming. The room was adequate, though for a "Superior Premium", it felt anything but - apart from the lovely, super king bad. The fridge was totally ineffective, but an ice bucket from the bar helped to keep our drinks cold. It was a very hot day.
Breakfast the next day was awful - truly awful. We ordered vegetarian sausages, but they arrived undercooked, and resembled greasy potato croquettes with a few bits of vegetable as part of the strange composition. We left them. The beans tasted strange, and so did the bread - which is a first! But not much can go wrong with grilled tomatoes, which, despite being undercooked, tasted just fine. The cheese slices were hard at the edge and curled, and although we don't eat meat, the offerings were clearly not very popular with the guests. The cereal selection was adequate, though there were no nuts (as the menu had listed), the seeds were simply sunflower, and the dried fruit was something that one would use to make cakes with - a poor show. But not quite as bad as the fresh fruit... A solitary (and very shrivelled) pear sat alone in a large bowl, the whole time that were seated. Many people commented, and someone even pointed it out to a member of staff. But alas, it remained on its own, with no glimmer of hope of having some fresh friends to join it, it seemed.
And so all in all, a mixed visit. A good night's sleep, but an extremely forgettable experience, and one not to be repeated.
