Excellent service. We had an issue with the air conditioning in our room. After speaking with the receptionist—who was incredibly attentive—she moved us to a room with working AC and offered us two drinks as an apology for the inconvenience. Next time we visit Manchester, this is the hotel we will choose.

Check was great with no issues, but another hotel gouging guests for the car park. OK was only a fiver but still. Room was on the small side but spacious enough to be comfortable. Wasnt sure what to do with the single duvets!!! I get it and understand why but there was a guest on check out very upset about it all and tried to involve me on his complaint which I declined. Location for me was good as I was working around the bury new road area but is a bit of wander into the city if you want to walk.

Overall we had an excellent 3 night stay at the Niu. We normally stay at the Holiday Inn Manchester City Centre so were a little concerned that this might not live up to that hotel. POSITIVES The room and bathroom are excellent. Well-designed and feels more upscale & 'boutique-y' than you might expect at this price level. For us, significantly nicer than the average Holiday Inn Express. The room aircon works well which for us is really important. The daytime staff seem well-trained and very positive and helpful. We had 1 issue with the the room safe and they came right up to sort it. The fruit & cucumber waters on tap in the public areas also a nice touch. SUGGESTION As a more budget hotel the rooms do not have desks. Overnight between midnight and 6am it would be good for the Niu to make more clearly available at least a small working area for those of us who need to work late or early. They shut off all the common area lights and the vibe is pretty clearly "please go away"! 😂 Overall though happy to recommend the Niu as a budget-friendly alternative to city-centre hotels and we look forward to returning.

We have stayed at this hotel multiple times and are Silver Members, so it is incredibly disappointing to be writing this review. Before arriving, we specifically phoned the hotel to confirm that paying in cash would be acceptable. We were assured that it was. However, upon arrival, we were suddenly informed that we would need to hand over an additional £200 cash deposit on top of the room payment – a deposit worth more than the cost of our room itself. No clear explanation was given. What made the situation even more frustrating was the complete inability of the reception staff to explain the policy properly. Despite us having multiple payment cards available, we were repeatedly told that a cash deposit was required and that they could not use any card as security. When we asked why, we received vague and contradictory answers, they are a German hotel..?? You can’t use the card on hold if you pay in cash?? There’s no cards on the system..?? Having no alternative, we reluctantly handed over £300 in cash. We were then horrified to watch our money be placed into an unsealed envelope with only “£300” written on it. There was no room number, no guest name, no booking reference, and no apparent security measures whatsoever. Anyone would be concerned watching that happen. To make matters worse, we were not given any receipt or proof that the deposit had even been taken. It was only after repeatedly demanding documentation that a member of staff produced a random invoice which still failed to mention the deposit. My partner ultimately had to write details onto the paperwork himself before the receptionist finally signed it. The entire process felt unprofessional, disorganised, and frankly concerning. We have generally enjoyed our previous stays here, but this experience has completely changed our opinion of the hotel. Loyal customers should not be treated this way, nor should guests be expected to hand over hundreds of pounds in cash without proper documentation or accountability. If you intend to pay in cash, or if you expect clear communication and competent customer service, I would strongly advise looking elsewhere. After this experience, we will not be returning.
