A wonderful hotel with a spacious and cosy lobby and a fantastic location right in the city centre. There is a supermarket nearby, as well as plenty of cafés and restaurants within walking distance.
The room was modern and comfortable, with high-quality bathroom fixtures and stylish interiors. Our window faced the hotel’s internal area, so there was no particular view, but it was very quiet and felt completely safe. Nothing disturbed us at night, and we slept very comfortably.
The staff were friendly, welcoming and always happy to help.
The breakfast was another highlight. The food was fresh and of good quality, with plenty available at all times. There were also enough tables even during peak hours, which made breakfast a very pleasant experience.
We were especially pleasantly surprised by The Artful Critic restaurant in the hotel lobby. The dishes were delicious and beautifully presented — we particularly enjoyed the sea bass. The staff were very polite and attentive. A special thank you to Habi for the exceptional care and attention.
We came down to London from Manchester, I didn't particularly want to go to London but we were attending a wedding. I have the IHG app and have stayed with IHG many times before. I didn't know what to expect from the Holiday inn Bloomsbury but I was very pleased. The hotel staff were excellent and very friendly which is a shocker because Normally in London they are rude. We booked two rooms and we were early (11am) and we needed a room to get ready so they gave us the standard room to get ready in whilst the premium room was cleaned. The rooms were in a very clean modern state. So that was a tick in the box also. The premium family room was also fantastic. Loads of little free bits to make the stay more comfortable. Fridge with drinks of coke, a chocolate and crisps. Great touch. Front of house was excellent ordered me a cab , the bar staff very friendly, the cleaning staff very friendly. The rooms surprisingly quiet. Overall a short stay but very nice. I would stay there again if I ever go back to London. (Which I'm really not bothered about) I can't understand why people want to go to such an awful city. Anyway the Hotel was great. Thanks to the team there.

the housekeeping noise problem is so sad because otherwise this is a perfect hotel. but literally from 8am to 6pm, all day, every day... housekeeping doesn't just open rooms and clean them. they slam the doors EVERY time. in and out. multiple times for each room. they slam things in the hallways. all. day. long. if you try to ask them not to slam they just say oh well the doors slam. literally any other hotel ive stayed at props the door open while cleaning so they don't have to go in and out and in and out to clean a room. it's literally common sense.
the bar and restaurant staff are lovely and make my stays very pleasant. the front desk is extremely accommodating and the concierge are mostly wonderful. there is one concierge who is NEVER not looking at his phone. when you ask for a taxi or try to drop off laundry, he gets SO IRRITATED that he has to look up from whatever video he's watching. I mean there's cameras in the lobbies, you could easily see who this is but I honestly don't think this hotel cares.
it's perfectly located. across the street from a tube station, a Tesco and Pret a Manger on the same block, a Boots, Superdrug and Waitrose across the street and the Marquis Cornwallis pub across from the front door with incredible Sunday roasts.
but do you want to relax? would you maybe like to sleep in during your vacation? good luck. just SLAM SLAM SLAM alllllllllll day long. for the price of this hotel, it's honestly unacceptable.

I’ve been staying here regularly since 2024, so I wanted to leave a genuine review that might help anyone considering a stay, given all the positive and negative comments.
Firstly, the hotel is now refurbished and there are no old rooms left. The new rooms are modern, bright and more comfortable than what you’d normally get for this price in central London. I’ve stayed in a few different room types and they differ mainly in size, but the price reflects that, and each one is worth what you pay and I’d say still practical for whatever your needs are. The common areas have been refurbished too and feel much more spacious, useful and vibrant, so the renovation has elevated the place in the best possible way.
In terms of breakfast, you get the full English, plus cereals, nuts, yoghurts, pastries and a fruit salad bar. There’s also a little detail about breakfast that I love, which is the pancake machine, not because of the pancakes but because it was there before the refurbishment too, and I’ve never once walked past it without seeing someone happily making themselves a stack. It’s a small thing, but small things like that are what you remember. Everyone finds something at that breakfast, honestly I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone leave unsatisfied. For allergies I can’t speak from personal experience, but I do see alternatives like gluten free bagels, and as long as you let the staff know I’m sure you’ll be fine. They’re attentive and you’ll be well looked after. The Artful Critic is a nice spot too, whether you’re after a drink or a proper lunch or dinner. Good service, good food, reasonable prices, and you always come away happy.
Location wise, Bloomsbury is a neighbourhood with a consistent local crowd. It gets a bit more touristy in summer, but the area really belongs to the universities, UCL especially, so mostly you’ll see students around. It’s actually lovely that a chain hotel like this sits in the middle of a neighbourhood like that, because it lets you experience a bit of local life too. For transport you’re right next to Russell Square, and King’s Cross is very close as well. You won’t have any problems day or night, and I’m saying that as a solo female traveller.
I read the bad reviews too, and most of them are about the renovation period or how the hotel used to be. I agree that wasn’t the best time. But I think the team deserves some credit here. As a customer you’re right to expect what you paid for, especially if you’re only there once. But a renovation was happening, and what matters in that situation is the attitude of the staff, and even back then I saw them do everything they could to make the experience as positive as possible. For me that’s the most important thing of all, so a separate thank you goes to the staff.
Most recently Anirud took care of me, an excellent problem solver and such a warm, smiley person. But I really don’t want to leave anyone out, because over the years I’ve been looked after by so many brilliant people, all of them just as warm and professional. They’re quick, and they actually fix things.
And as a customer, yes, the room is probably the first thing you look at, and here you’ll be happy with it anyway, but what really makes a stay is knowing that anything that comes up will get sorted, and that’s what this place does best.
For me, this place stopped feeling like checking into a hotel a while ago. It feels like coming back somewhere I feel safe, somewhere I trust.
Thank you to the whole team and to management. Highly recommended.
