Stayed in a twin room here for a company event at the 5 star Hilton on the same block and genuinely thought this place was nicer. 17-degree air con in the room on the hottest day on record was a blessing, staff were lovely, very comfortable bed and as someone who finds staying in hotels overwhelming I felt immediately at ease here. Soundproofing was also top notch.
Only minor gripe would be the rather strange smelling soap and shampoo with pumps that make it quite difficult to use in the shower.

The hotel itself is probably fine. But we wouldn’t know, because when we got there (jet lagged after an 11 hour flight and desperate to go to sleep) it turned out they didn’t have our room available. There was a maintenance issue, and no one available to fix it. So they sent us in a taxi to a different holiday inn express, in a much worse and more distant part of London. The thing is, we had booked this hotel specifically for its location. We had a tight schedule in London and the new hotel location really messed up our time there (we ended up nearly missing our flight). All they offered in compensation were a couple of water bottles… disappointing experience overall
I was very disappointed with our stay.
First, we were charged more than we were originally told we would pay. We had reserved a room with two full beds, but when we arrived, one of the "beds" was actually a pull-out sofa. That is not what we booked and made the room much less comfortable than expected.
The parking situation was also frustrating. Guests are charged a significant fee for what is an extremely small and cramped parking area.
The room itself had several issues. The shower water temperature was inconsistent—one day it was far too warm and would not cool down, and the next day we struggled to get it warm enough. The air conditioning had similar problems and was difficult to regulate.
The location was not appealing, as it was next to a run-down restaurant, and bright exterior lights shone through gaps in the curtains all night, making it difficult to sleep.
The biggest disappointment came after checkout. We accidentally left a pillow behind and called the hotel to ask if we could come back and retrieve it. Instead of giving us a simple yes-or-no answer, we were told to call management in the morning. To us, that effectively meant no one was willing to help.
The only positives were the complimentary breakfast, which was quite good, and the wonderful breakfast attendant who collected dishes. She was genuinely pleasant to talk to, very polite, and provided the best customer service we experienced during our stay.
Unfortunately, because of the inaccurate room description, unexpected charges, room issues, and poor customer service regarding our lost item, I would not stay here again.

Friendly & welcoming reception staff on arrival. Very efficient. Room well soundproofed. No road or building noise. Room size adequate for 1 night. Bed comfortable. The provision of 1 firm & 1 soft pillow was a great idea! Bathroom nicely decorated, roomy & bright as well as spotlessly clean. Breakfast good. Great location for The Globe, Tate Modern & the whole of the south bank. Convenient for tube stations at Southwark or Blackfriars, approx 8 min walk. Can definitely recommend & would stay there again for an event that side of London.

Nice hotel overall with several positives. The facility was clean and well maintained, and housekeeping did a great job keeping the room fresh and tidy each day. The breakfast was very enjoyable, and the staff who greeted and seated guests each morning were friendly and welcoming.
There were a few downsides to our stay. The room had a lingering plastic-like smell that never completely went away. The elevator was very small and could comfortably fit only about two people at a time. The air conditioning struggled to cool the room during the hot 30°C weather in London and, because the unit was located near the bathroom, very little cool air reached the bed area. It often took a long time for the room to become comfortable. The bed was also quite hard and not very comfortable.
Overall, the cleanliness, breakfast, and staff were highlights of our stay, but improvements to the room comfort, air conditioning, and elevator capacity would make the experience much better.
