  Stayed here recently and had a very pleasant experience. The hotel was clean, well maintained, and the overall atmosphere was welcoming from the moment I arrived. The room was comfortable, quiet, and provided everything I needed for a relaxing stay. The staff were friendly, professional, and always happy to help whenever I had a question. Breakfast was enjoyable with a good selection of options, and the common areas of the hotel were kept clean and tidy throughout my visit. Overall, everything went smoothly and I had no issues during my stay. I would be happy to stay here again and would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient place to stay in the area.

  ⭐ Derek Made Breakfast Magical A special thank you to Derek at breakfast. He was wonderful with my daughter, showing her Harry Potter magic tricks and making breakfast a highlight of our stay. She was so excited to see him again the next morning. His kindness, warmth and enthusiasm went above and beyond. A real credit to the Holiday Inn team. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Unfortunately, our room was not up to an acceptable standard. The room had a strong unpleasant smell on arrival and did not appear to have been cleaned properly. There was visible black mould in the bathroom, which was particularly disappointing. The bedding also smelled of cigarette smoke, making it uncomfortable to sleep in. In addition, there was no room service available during our stay. Overall, the condition of the room fell well below our expectations and significantly impacted our experience.

  Checked in on work trip, payday few weeks away, so not the wealthiest, only to find they require a £50 pre authorization on a card incase of overpayment to room or damages i guess? I've only ever had this with small or solo hotels and have never had to do this at a holiday inn. It stays as pending I guess till checked out and all good, but still takes my available balance away in bank until they reverse charge. Now I know if my funds are limited, then will swerve this place and hope i remember too. Pool and gym also closed for refurb, so not getting my moneys worth. Cant comment on dinner or breakfast.

  Derek, this review is for you! While this Holiday Inn is very similarly good compared with other Holiday Inns and you know what you're going to get in terms of room standards and food, what you only get in Hemel Hempstead is Derek! It was an absolute pleasure to find a member of staff who works front of house and is so bagged with the customers. Everyone you came across seemed to appreciate your company. You went out of your way to check the reasons for everyone being there, and you made our son feel welcomed and you made him smile, which is difficult at that time of the morning! For someone who admits they can't remember everything, you've committed an incredible range of jokes to memory. We were treated to Derek's pre-sorting hat and lots of cheese based jokes. Derek remembered us on the second day of our stay too. Derek, I hope you keep enjoying your job. You genuinely seem happy working there. And for that reason alone, you should be given as many hours as you wish to work. It's been a pleasure. Long may you continue to make other guests happy at meal times.

  Honestly can't rate this place high enough after spending the weekend here, checking in was simple enough and was greeted by a lovely lady at the desk who made us feel very welcome. The room was clean and tidy with a lot of space to put items and had extras such as hair dryer ect. The staff really made the place though, it was my daughters birthday on the Saturday (we arrived friday night) and they put in a morning wake up call request to wish her happy birthday at 7am and to be fair right on the dot they called. Then breakfast came round and there was plenty of choice including both hot and cold food but most importantly there was Derek! He was so Jolly, came packed full of jokes and just started the day off right, all the staff really went above and beyond to make the day special and even made birthday pancakes and sang happy birthday to my daughter. We then went for dinner and Abbey served us and again nothing was too much and was really pleasant, food was good and just as much as you'd have paid any where else. Just want to say a huge thank you again though to Derek, Emilia ( the lady at the desk I'm really hoping I got your name right) and all the morning staff you're all amazing and hopefully see you all again soon.
