Dear Premier Inn Customer Relations,
I am writing to complain about the extremely disappointing service I received this evening at the restaurant at Premier Inn Portsmouth Solent.
I stay at Premier Inn regularly and have always regarded the brand as somewhere I can rely on for a good standard of service. Unfortunately, my experience this evening fell well below what I would expect.
I went into the restaurant as a single guest looking to have dinner. I was told that they could not accommodate me because a party of 15 had booked a table. What I found particularly unacceptable was that, at the time, the restaurant appeared to be very quiet, with numerous tables visibly unoccupied.
I appreciate that restaurants need to manage bookings and capacity, but refusing to accommodate one person when the restaurant appears to have plenty of available seating is extremely poor customer service. If there was a genuine operational reason why I could not be seated, I would have expected that to be explained properly and courteously, rather than simply being told that they could not fit me in.
As a regular Premier Inn customer, I find this particularly disappointing. I was a paying hotel guest who simply wanted to have dinner at the restaurant within the hotel, and I was made to feel as though accommodating one person was an inconvenience.
Quite frankly, I would expect considerably better from Premier Inn. The whole point of staying at a hotel with an on-site restaurant is the convenience of being able to eat there, particularly when travelling for work. On this occasion, that basic expectation was not met.
I would therefore like this complaint to be taken seriously and investigated with the management of the Portsmouth Solent hotel. I would also appreciate an explanation as to why I could not be accommodated when there appeared to be ample seating available.
I look forward to hearing from you and receiving a satisfactory response.
Kind regards,
Julian Sorrentino

Stayed in the premier plus room and was very pleased with the stay. Check in was easy, quick and without any issue. The room was clean, comfortable and everything worked as expected. Met expectations and would recommend to stay here.

The staff here were pleasant and helpful, proactively reminding us to pay for parking at the machine located right in the entrance when we checked in. The location itself is convenient, sitting just a 10-minute drive from Portsmouth with a Tesco, Costa, and various fast-food spots within easy walking distance. Upgrading to a Premier Plus room had its advantages—the air conditioning was a very welcome feature, and having an in-room fridge was practical for keeping drinks cold. However, the room's cleanliness was a letdown. While it looked fine at first glance, a closer look revealed a thick layer of dust alongside the fridge and behind the bedside table that had clearly been ignored for months. The bathroom also had a lingering damp smell. It works as a convenient base near Portsmouth, but housekeeping needs significant improvement to match the price of a upgraded room.

No safe box or iron in the room, free internet is unresponsive we were unable to load any webpage, our mobile network also got slow once enters the hotel. But they have an option where you can pay £5 per night to get their special fast internet lol.
Beds and furniture generally were ok, bathroom slightly outdated. Carpet would be smile if see rug-doctor rather than hoover. Breakfast was good.

I was very disappointed with my stay at the Premier Inn Port Solent.
The room had a noticeable damp smell from the moment we walked in, which made it feel unpleasant.
The furniture and décor are clearly showing their age, and the overall condition of the room and lobby felt tired and unclean.
There was an open access door about 3 metres from our room, picture enclosed - a lot of mould, and unpleasantness.
It was also obvious that the hotel was severely understaffed. There were only two members of staff on duty, who were running around trying to do everything they could. I don't blame them—they were working incredibly hard—but it's clear they need more support.
I hadn't stayed in a Premier Inn for around 10 years, and unfortunately this experience reminded me why.
I won't be returning. With the Marriott next door, that's where I'll be booking next time, though it's reviews didn't seem more positive.
