The best i can say is it's fine. My standard double room is a bit tired and in need of some tlc but for £59 a night it was acceptable. It has an attached pub that does breakfast and meals. The staff there were lovely. However, the Steak and ale pie was nothing more than ordinary with cheap meat. The chips were nice but the peas were clearly out of a can. Very basic meals but that said it was just under £12 so cant really complain. I will add more after having the breakfast tomorrow.

Wow! In general Premier inn has declined in quality but increased in price overall from my experience over the last 6years or so, but this one is exceptionally bad. No hot water on pm arrival and a cold shower in the morning. Toilet waste woke me up bubbling like a scene off Fast 5. No breakfast. Location is good because that’s where I chose to stay!
Receptionist very apologetic but it’s not her fault. I feel someone at the top is trying to make oil & gas profits from giving a man a bed for the night!

Great little hotel, with friendly staff, only let down by not having aircon or particularly great ventilation. The hotel do provide every room with a desk fan but it still gets hot in warm weather. No lift to the upstairs floor
The adjacent pub/restaurant is currently closed (Sep 2026). We found The Barn Café in Great Bentley really nice if you want a sit down cooked breakfast (with vegetarian versions)

We would stay here again, but not in July or August. Far too hot in the room, and the bathroom was like an oven. There was a fan, but it needed the windows opening.
I've said before, the Bowling Green pub next door needs a lot of redecorating. The hotel has been repainted internally.

5th August 2026, my wife unfortunately being stage 4 and needing some relief from treatment was told by her oncologist to take a break. Having been to the east coast a number of times it was almost always we stayed in a Premier Inn, we arrived on the 5th. On the morning of the 6th we went for breakfast in the allocated place, The Bowling Green pub, unfortunately my wife took a fall and broke her wrist while moving a chair in the aisle, thereby the first day was spent in Clacton Hospital. On the 7th my wife took seriously ill and was taken by blue light to Colchester Hospital and was detained there. Due to the situation I would need to stay longer but was only offered what I thought would be 2 nights was not. Premier Inns state their bookings are done by nights so I can by no means understand my being told I had to leave on the morning of the 11th as my booking was from the 5th to the 11th, surely that would be inclusive, but no. I Phoned the Premier Inn main people and told them of my situation and asked for some time to get alternative accommodation else where due to the situation I was in, No was the response so I would have to leave on the morning of the 12th having made an extra payment at the desk and I did. Fortunately I manage to find alternative accommodation. Considering this catalogue of unfortunate disasters for my wife and I it would appear sympathy would be the last thing this company would even consider. SO,
for 6 nights --5th-10th not the11th. £710.98 then from the11th that I thought I had already paid for till the morning of the 12th £279, really, break it down, you should be ashamed.
No response from the Bowling Green considering I left a full report of the incident and even less if you can say that from Premier (NO AIR CONDITIONING) themselves. I have to say at this point I shall never stay at a Premier Inn again to avail my family of this amount of disrespect, it was soul destroying to say the least.
Yours :- Mr Kenneth Hallissey.
