  Bit of a mixed bag review really. It is a holiday Inn express and does the basics very well, clean and tidy good breakfast. One thing to look out for is the parking, which in truth is a problem at IHG currently. I registered my car at reception when i checked in as i normally do (platinum Member) so its par for the course, but have TWO parking fines from this hotel. I challenged it and it was refused on the basis of no record , but as you have to fill in the paperwork when you check in there is one. Now Trying to get through to the hotel with no response time after time, so hence mixed bag.

  If you're staying at the hotel - you still have to pay for parking at the location, it's on the A12 so you don't have any other choice - it costs £16- for 24 hrs parking! Daylight robbery

  Arrived at the hotel was greated politely check in was easy everything was explained the only downsides was No Aircon the online menu wasn't up-to-date the food in the evening wasn't great but breakfast was superb

  I was staying here for business, trying to do work and calls in my room however the WiFi didn’t work and you get no phone signal, so if you are staying and need to do work this hotel might not be your best option. Hotel staff didnt greet me and weren’t very friendly. The carpet in the hallway was all lifting and abit of a trip hazard. The rooms are fine. The hotel isn’t located in the city centre but they still charge £8 for parking a day, which I thought was unreasonable.

  The hotel is well situated on the main road that runs close to Colchester. The area is nice, worth a visit, plenty to do. The hotel rooms are adequate, we found the beds to be comfortable. Shower was adequate. Room was clean. The service and the staff are lovely, very attentive and professional. The negatives stem from aspects that the staff cannot change. First being the entire outside of the hotel stunk of Poo, due to a broken or collapsing sewerage system. Second worst aspect was the fact the car park is owned by a private company, and stings you for pricing. £40 extra for a 3 night stay to ensure my car could be parked, and in truth my car was only there at night-time. The child's games room is pretty poor, most things are broken. However this is funded by the actual staff as clearly the hotel company doesnt want to spend any money on the place. Some of my family members experienced alot of noise at night time, whether this was due to other customers we dont know but generally the walls are not thick. Last thing, we experienced a severely busy period at the hotel, and the breakfast buffet does not keep up, and is not fit for purpose. It is a very limited range of food on offer also. However if you can make do then it is nice, I liked the sausages and the pancake machine. Recommend only stay here for a convenient night or two but no longer.
