  We stayed for 5 days in the Accessible Room with the large bathroom with roll-in shower & separate shower chair. The hotel entry has the ramps in place permanently so accessible anytime. Please be aware that Edinburgh is a city of hills & cobblestones roads so pushing a wheelchair will give your muscles some exercise. The heritage Terrace building has been modernized. It feels comfortable & relaxing. The staff were welcoming, friendly & helpful during our whole stay. The breakfast buffet & restaurant food is delicious & plentiful. The bar staff make great cocktails & good Whisky recommendations. Thankyou for making our trip of a lifetime enjoyable & homely.

  Had a lovely stay at Voco Royal Terrace. What stood out for me - as my first introduction to Scottish hospitality - was the warm and friendly service. So accommodating and the complimentary treats were so lovely. Bed was comfortable and rooms had everything I needed, as well as being clean and well appointed.

  L’hôtel ne correspond pas du tout à un hôtel 4 étoiles, beaucoup trop cher pour la qualité proposée. Les photos sont embellies et mensongères, les chambres sont petites et surtout étouffantes. Beaucoup d’humidité sans possibilité d’ouvrir les fenêtres. L’hygiène laissait parfois à désirer avec les plateaux repas laissés au sol dans les couloirs. La baignoire de la salle de bain était cassée. Expérience très décevante

  Our stay at this supposedly 4-star hotel, booked through Secret Escapes, was a very disappointing and sobering experience. The presentation on Secret Escapes was attractive and created the impression of a stylish, high-quality hotel. Because of this, we booked with confidence and did not pay much attention to the negative reviews beforehand. It was only after arriving and experiencing the reality for ourselves that we actively searched for other guest reviews – and unfortunately found that many of the criticisms matched our own experience. The room we received was in urgent need of renovation and fell far below the standard we would expect from a 4-star property. The bathroom was particularly poor, with rust and damaged enamel in the bathtub, untidy and deteriorating grout, and a partially malfunctioning toilet flush. To make matters worse, the windows could not be opened, leaving the room feeling stuffy and uncomfortable. The lower-floor corridors had a strong and rather unpleasant air freshener smell, which seemed to be used to mask a persistent musty odour. Instead of creating a welcoming atmosphere, it only highlighted the underlying issue. Unfortunately, the breakfast was equally disappointing. The selection and quality were below expectations, and the breakfast room itself did not appear particularly clean. Dust and dirt had accumulated in corners and on the window sills, giving an overall impression of neglect. After reading other reviews, we can only agree with the many negative comments that have been posted by previous guests. We have also submitted a formal complaint to Secret Escapes, as the hotel did not match the description or standards that were advertised. We would not recommend this hotel and would strongly advise potential guests to look elsewhere. Rating: 1/5 ⭐

  The hotel is in a good location, but the cleanliness and service were quite concerning. As soon as we checked in, we found an insect in our room. The staff insisted that it was just a harmless spider and said there was little they could do about it. After we repeatedly expressed our concerns, they eventually said they would have it removed later that afternoon and would also look into the possibility of compensation. However, when we returned to the room that evening, we found three more insects. In addition, no compensation had been arranged as promised. Instead, we were told to speak with the manager at reception the next day. To be fair, the evening staff member was very helpful and professional. They personally helped remove the insects from the room and handled the situation much better than the earlier staff. Unfortunately, when we woke up the next morning, we discovered yet another insect in the room. While the location is convenient, the repeated insect problem and the inconsistent handling of the issue significantly affected our stay.
