We had 3 rooms for our whole family, and since we had 2 little girls early checkin was definitely part of our reservation. I booked all 3 rooms and added early checkin to all of them - I think it's like an extra 15 GBP for that service.
When we arrived at the property after our flight from the USA I knew we were probably too early even for the early checkin service. So I went to the reception desk with my reservations and credit card, spoke with a very nice lady who confirmed we were too early to check in, but offered to keep our luggage in their luggage storage room until our rooms were ready. No problem for us - I told her we would drop the luggage and head out on the bus to visit the nearby Swanston Farms to see the Highland Cows.
Imagine our surprise when we returned and then tried to checkin for our early checkin during the appropriate time - the guy sitting at the checkin counter said they had given away our early checkin rooms which had been allotted to us because we weren't there at the exact early checkin time. And because we weren't there at the prescribed early checkin start time - he removed the early checkin 15 GBP from all our rooms.
This was one of the stupidest things I've ever heard from a hotel. He asked if I still wanted early checkin and should he add the charge back to our rooms (whenever they now became available). Does this make sense to anybody else?? This is like the Jerry Seinfeld episode when Jerry had a reservation for a car, but arrived and was told they had no cars even though he had a reservation...but I was not laughing at this point.
The lady that had originally helped us when we first arrived was still sitting there right beside him, and she never uttered a word - although she did look at me and smiled because of course she remembered us being there just an hour and a half earlier.
Now this guy (who obviously doesn't understand what a reservation is for) is attempting to help us, but says there are no rooms and we'll just have to wait. Slowly, one by one, the rooms became available, but then he went into the very painful process of attempting to retrieve our bags from the luggage storage room. Not ALL of our bags - only the ones that belong to the family members who are currently being processed. What a dolt! We weren't allowed to enter the luggage room, he told he we could only stand at the entrance and point to our bags and then he would attempt to retrieve them. Imagine standing in a doorway attempting to spot your 1 piece of luggage in a room full of everybody else's luggage. Oh My Gosh - could this man have made such a simple process ANY worse???
Checking into this hotel was by far the worst experience of our entire 2 week stay in Europe...btw - this is our 30th or so trip to Europe and we're quite accustomed to checking into hotels.
I let my family checkin into their rooms before he slowly and painfully eventually got to me. It was exactly 53 minutes until the normal checkin time and yes, I was aggravated at this whole stupid process, and he looks at me and says do you want me to add the early checkin back to your reservation??? I'm actually shocked that he still wants me to pay 15 GBP after this needlessly painful process that he has subjected us to. He tells me I can either sit and wait 53 minutes or pay the 15 GBP and check in 53 minutes early. Yes, I do want to check in now so he adds back the 15 GBP charge. Of course by the time we go through this painful luggage retrieval process again (for the 3rd time) we actually get to our room about 30 minutes before the normal checkin time.
The location is great, the attached restaurant is great, other employees here are great - but this guy should be let go and has no business in the hospitality sector.
The hotel is in an excellent location, with most attractions around a 15–20 minute walk away. There are plenty of restaurants and shops surrounding the hotel, which is very convenient.
I booked a Premier Plus room and was allocated room 325, but unfortunately the view was directly onto a concrete building, which looked quite unpleasant. I had read previous reviews mentioning rooms without windows, so I called the hotel beforehand and was advised to book a Premier Plus room which is more expensive to avoid this issue.
The staff were polite and attentive, and the room itself was clean. I had booked the full breakfast, but found it disappointing. The tea mugs were particularly off‑putting; although they had supposedly been washed, many still had stains inside, so you had to search through them to find a clean one. There was also no cheese available.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay mainly because of the hotel’s excellent location.
Location is great as in the Main Street, which is quite busy but you have lots of shops if you need snacks, bakery, quick food etc. when you walk up to the street behind, there are more restaurants, bars and amazing shops, completely different at atmosphere.
At the hotel, some staff were friendly, some were not, working in hospitality, you need to be polite, helpful and professional! In this is just a case, there are a lot of improvements needed. Other than that, it was a happy stay.
Must get a private walking tour guy for few hours. So much history in this city.
We booked a five-night stay at the Premier Inn Edinburgh City Centre (Princes Street) hotel from Toronto, Canada, and it proved to be an excellent choice. From the comfortable accommodation to the great service, the hotel exceeded our expectations in every way.
The reception staff were friendly and very helpful. The hotel's location is exceptional, with easy walking access to many of Edinburgh’s most iconic attractions, including the Royal Mile, Grassmarket, Edinburgh Castle, Calton Hill, and a wide variety of restaurants and shops.
The hotel’s breakfast lounge offers a buffet with a wide variety of options. We opted for the Full English Breakfast each morning, which was excellent.
Our room overlooked the main street and provided a stunning view of Edinburgh Castle. It was clean, spacious, quiet, and well maintained. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep after a day of exploring the city.
My wife and I are delighted that we chose this hotel for our visit to Edinburgh. The combination of comfortable accommodation, outstanding service, and an unbeatable location made our stay truly memorable. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a comfortable, convenient, and enjoyable stay in Edinburgh.

Very disappointed with the way my situation has been handled by this hotel.
After checking out 26/05/2026 I realised I had accidentally left a clothes on the bed. It contained completely new clothes I had just bought from Primark, including trousers and other items.
The most frustrating part is not even the lost items themselves, but how the situation has been handled. Apparently, the items were never added to Lost & Found after the room was cleaned. I have been calling for two days. On the first day, I was told they would ask housekeeping. On the second day, it seemed nobody had even followed up until I mentioned that I would leave a negative review and escalate the matter.
Only then was I told that a message might be sent to the housekeeper, but she was on her day off. The staff member I spoke with was not helpful or polite and gave the impression that since nothing had been reported, it was simply “not their problem.” There was very little empathy or willingness to assist.
That said, I still hope the hotel will handle this professionally. I was told I may receive an update tomorrow after housekeeping is contacted, and I genuinely hope there will be positive news. Mistakes happen, but customer service is about how problems are resolved. I would be happy to update this review if the hotel manages to make this right.
