I was charged £107 extra upon collecting the key for my room because the hotel seemingly sold my room. I booked my room and dropped my luggage off at this hotel. I later returned to pick up the key to my room to be told it isn't available (after paying for it) and that if I am to stay at the hotel then I would need to pay £107 for a new room. The gentleman in nightshift explained only management could change my room without a fee. However, the staff in the morning explained that there should never have been an extra charge. The staff in the morning were sincere and polite when addressing the issue whereas the guy on nightshift could not care less and wished me luck. I am yet to be told about when I will get refunded or why I was charged and extra amount. Update: management are not present at the hotel. I have been calling the hotel as well as the guest line and neither can get in contact. Should you ever have an issue with this hotel, their response will be to ignore you.

The rooms were clean and about what we had expected after staying at another hotel of the same chain. However, when we arrived before check-in time there was no staff to be found for a while. When the staff did arrive, she wasn't very friendly. This wasn't a huge issue in itself, but it felt as though she treated another couple who arrived after us nicer. She asked for our booking numbers and the other couple just stated the first two letters before she easily let them store their luggage. When I tried to do the same thing, the staff specifically told me she had to see my booking number on my phone. This felt weird since she didnt actually look at the other couple's booking number. And maybe it was just my imagination, but it felt like the way she talked to them was more amiable. The interesting part about this was that the other couple was white while we are asian (although we are from a Western country, she wouldn't have known as she never saw our passports). I can't be certain this was why she treated us differently but after seeing another review alluding to potential racism, I wanted to share my experience as well in case there is a pattern. All the other staff I talked to during our stay were infinitely more nice, so it is likely just this one staff member. But regardless the experience left me feeling very off afterwards, which wasn't how I wanted to start off my first day in Edinburgh.

We paid an additional 15 pounds for early check-in at 12:00 PM and arrived at 12:30 PM. However, the young receptionist at the entrance was neither welcoming nor helpful. When we asked about our room, she responded rudely, saying that "early check-in from 12:00 PM doesn't mean it will be available at 12:00 PM, it can be anytime after 12:00 PM." If that is the case, why advertise a 12:00 PM early check-in and charge extra for it? There were two couples waiting ahead of us, and when their rooms became available, they were allocated in the order they had arrived, which was completely fair. However, when it was our turn, the receptionist simply ignored us and gave a room to another guest who had just arrived for early check-in. We had been waiting much longer. This made us feel that we were treated with slight racism. Since the receptionist had seen our Asian passports, while the guest who was given the room ahead of us had a European passport, it left us with the impression that we were not treated equally. The experience felt unfair and was very disappointing. Everyone pays the same amount and deserves to be treated with the same level of respect and professionalism. Overall, the receptionist's attitude was disappointing and left a very negative impression of the hotel. Paying nearly 200 pounds for such a small room only added to our dissatisfaction. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this hotel to others.
