  Having been to our local Sea Life, we were keen to visit a new one when visiting the Weymouth area on holiday. We managed to get Midweek Madness tickets which saved us almost £8 each for two adults. The centre is primarily outside due to the different animals they have (otters, penguins and seals). The inside spaces are small and have a variety of fish in. On our visit, there were lots of people with pushchairs which meant it became very congested inside and therefore could restrict your view of the tanks. Some of the areas for the animals appear quite small, and inside some of the walls are peeling and screens weren't working. Areas are designed to be one way and at some points people were queuing to get to the indoor sections. You also have to go through a photo opportunity before you enter, and it is awkward to skip this. The person who welcomed us on reception however was very friendly. There are good extras for those that have children, including a play park and a splash zone. We didn't eat on site but there appeared to be a few cafes. We only spent about 1.5 hours here and easily completed the centre in this time, and this was only prolonged due to a heavy downpour halfway round! There is lots of parking just outside starting at £3.30 and easy access to the beach and other attractions in the area. Worth buying tickets online in advance to save money, and make sure you take outdoor clothing if weather looks wet!

  I'm a half and half decided with this place I do like it but the car park itself is horrifying unfortunately the car park is in dire need of a major repair with disgraceful pieces of multiple rubbish included somebody's Colostomy Wee Bag and Tubes I found this to be quite upsetting and very disrespectful as this is a bio-hazard there this was on the carpark floor on the shingle stones was also more rubbish included people's purchases from the gift shop packaging cans and bottles nappies feeding bottles baby wipes socks and much more it's just a another landfill and this place goes on about saving the planet from plastic and rubbish polluting the sea but they are not making any sense as the car park is covered in litter and biohazards I have put a picture of the car park pointing arrow to show where the colostomy bag was found but the water park with jolly good fun I enjoyed getting nice and cool in the water with my kids. Some staff seem to be unhappy 🙁

  The seal water was absolutely disgusting with litter floating in there water poor things. When we went down under the seals you could see how dirty the start was you couldn’t really see the seals in the water. The toilets were disgusting and not clean yes it was busy but they should be regularly cleaned. It’s over priced for the amount of time there! The pool attendant well he was rude and had a massive attitude problem if you don’t like you job don’t work there where there are loads of kids around. I have never met a man so rude and abusive but didn’t like it when he had it back from a female. Rules should be clearly signed ever where not just made up on the spot! I will not be returning to Weymouth sea life centre ever! There is not enough seating around the pool or splash pad for people to sit while the children are playing. The Que to wait to go in was shot but took nearly half an hour to get in! Which is a joke for 1 person to be in front of us. The staff are to busy talking amongst themselves should of learnt from that really

  We did the behind the scenes tour and it was so worth it. Our guide with their little octopus shoulder friend was very knowledgeable and worked fantastically with their colleague to take us back stage. We even saw a turtle in rehab. It’s clear they were so proud of where they work and the fantastic things Sealife does. The rest of the park was unexpected- the other Sealifes we have been to are all one building indoors, but in Weymouth there’s lots of little buildings with different things to see. This actually worked out great, we weren’t stuck in a conveyor belt style visit and we actually looped the Turtle enclosure a few times as my son wanted to go again. There’s lots of shade between the areas so even though it was hot, you didn’t feel baked. There was a kids trail and we received a cool pack with transfer tattoos, colouring and a turtle to make. All of the staff were so friendly and you could see them greet each other on shift with really nice rapport. The two criticisms I have are: there isn’t enough soap. Bring sanitiser. Most of the toys in the toy shop look half baked, (hooded eyes) I couldn’t bring myself to take one home as they kept cracking me up but it’s definitely… a style.

  I've been to a few Sea Life Centres now, but nothing compares to my visit to the Sea Life Centre in Weymouth. During our family holiday from Essex, we entered the park and within minutes my son was handed a map. In hindsight, this was a terrible idea, because shortly after making our way into the "Shipwreck" zone, we accidentally wandered through a dimly lit, unmarked door and somehow found ourselves in the lost city of Atlantis. Surprisingly lovely place. The locals were incredibly welcoming, if not a little damp, and even gave us a guided tour. I was too polite to ask how us surface dwellers were somehow breathing underwater, so I just nodded along and accepted it. My five-year-old immediately became some sort of diplomatic ambassador between humanity and the sea folk after correctly identifying a starfish he'd learned about in the Sea Life Centre's rockpool section. The Atlanteans seemed genuinely impressed. They even offered him honorary citizenship, but we had to decline because the school run would've been a logistical nightmare. The sharks were acting as palace guards, the rays served as public transport, and one particularly persistent turtle spent a good ten minutes trying to convince me my car's extended warranty was about to expire. Luckily, the Sea Life Centre staff were on hand to escort us back to the human world before we accidentally negotiated an interspecies trade agreement based entirely on fish finger sandwiches. All in all, we had a fantastic few hours. The animals looked well cared for, the exhibits were clean and interesting, and there was plenty to keep our son entertained from start to finish, especially with the addition of the splash park. I'd definitely recommend it to families... just avoid the suspicious-looking doors, and whatever you do, don't let your kids navigate. Pick up your own map—it might just save you from an unexpected diplomatic mission to Atlantis.
