The neighbourhood of adaptation, inspiration and contemplation Perched on the River Exe, the historic centre of Exeter was once described as the Jewel of the West. In the heart of the city centre, Hotel Indigo Exeter has been lovingly restored and converted from its department store origins. This hotel was once the home of Colson’s, a department store opened in 1792 by local milliner Mrs. Colson, who became one of the cities most loved characters. From Colsons to Dingles, to House of Fraser, and now Hotel Indigo Exeter. Staying true to its roots the hotel takes its design inspiration from the building’s department store past and other notable neighbourhood sites as each of the 104 rooms are styled to honour elements of the city. With luxury amenities like Egyptian cotton linens, spa-inspired bathrooms, and 40-inch flatscreen TVs, this is the perfect place to explore the sights and sounds of the city.

Rooms were lovely. There was 3 of us staying but the room was only made up for 2. So we had to get them to update the room.
Restaurant food was OK. They obviously had new staff learning, but they should have had more basic knowledge before serving. Everyone very friendly and helpful. Spa was lovely. We booked a 2 hr slot but only got an hour ! Told our time was up.

We were greeted by Abby very late at night and although I was exhausted after work and the drive, Abby continued to serve us with a beautiful smile and warm welcome.
Spa facilities were exceptional and the massage performed by Star and Scarlett was extraordinary.
The hotel itself is breathtaking. We were in a Suite for 3 nights and I relished my stay especially savored being on the balcony in the vacinity of the cathedral.
However although I have had a wonderful experience I would like to highlight behavioural issue.
My husband was confronted by Gurpreet at the reception when he requested to extend our stay. She was reluctant and her body language was demeaning and derogatory. On the other hand when I received the call from Amira she was polite , friendly and professional.
I firmly believe that basic manners, etiquette and chivalry go a long way especially in the hospitality sector. Myself and husband are extremely well travelled individuals and it doesn't take much to be polite. Therefore I firmly believe that re-education is required for Gurpreet in order to uphold the the optimum standard of the Hotel.

Hotel is located very centrally, a stone's throw from the Cathedral. It's close to Exeter Central but a bit of a hike from St David's (where long-distance services call). Reception is spacious and staff welcoming. Our room (standard King) was lovely. A big room, with a comfortable bed, seating area and the usual tea & coffee facilities.
Only drawback was the limited sound insulation, and our resulting exposure to hours of a very keen busker immediately outside. It was not so bad at night, notwithstanding it being a busy night. But soundproofing is the one thing that needs attention.
Breakfast was nice, with hot food cooked to order. A continental buffet offers the usual choices. Not keen on the capsule coffee, which tasted pretty awful. Tea, however, was very nice.

This is a review of 2 parts.
Part 1.
We went to the roof terrace bar on a beautiful sunday ..stunning views of the Cathedral a real sun trap. So I went to get some drinks and noticed they had no draught lager I was told by a very pleasant and chirpy young lady "really sorry but you'll have to go to the reception bar and bring it back up" now we're on the roof 8 floors above the reception bar !!!! Had the same response when I asked for tea... go 8 floors down then bring it back up in the lift. Ok so I ordered 2 bottles of San Miguel "I've only got 1..I'll send out for some more" ... another staff member then appears some 15 minutes later carrying a fridge pack of 10 clearly bought from Tesco across the road, the poor girl behind the bar couldn't apologise enough bless her.
Part 2.
We went in a week later had a drink in the reception bar 2 servers were working, first girl what can I get you so we ordered "oh I can't do that, you'll have to wait for the other server" who was rushed off her feet ..why have a server there that can't pour drinks (was she training??).. so over 2 visits 2 very underwhelming experiences. The location, roof terrace fantastic but the service was not good, but the staff I encountered were great.

Nice hotel, great location right in the centre and close to Exeter Central Train Station. Spa costs extra if you want to use it which isn't clear on the website. Rooftop bar is nice but very expensive.
