Unfortunately there were just too many issues with this hotel that led us to cutting our trip short and leaving. To their credit, the staff were amazing and they tried their best to accommodate our needs and help where they can. We arrived late and the room was filthy. The duvet and its cover stained all over and we asked for a replacement, only to be brought a dirtier one which had what looked like a blood stain. We refused that too and after a long wait they found a clean one. The mattress cover was dirty also, and the carpet was not vacuumed at all. The state of the room was just tired with scratches everywhere and mould in the bathroom. The heater/air con didn’t work! The room was suffocating, with the window only opening a tiny bit. I had to step out during the middle of the night to get fresh air. I asked at reception and they said it’s Premier Inn policy to have the windows not openable so nobody can climb in from outside! The breakfast is the worst bit. Cheap low quality everything! You’ll get toast, pancakes, butters and jams, some shop bought muffins still in their plastic tray packaging, some yogurt and previously frozen fruit mix and a bunch of cereals. The hot breakfast is eggs, sausages and hash browns. The breakfast room itself is filthy. Sticky floor and surfaces, worn out furniture, and stuffy pub like atmosphere. While the staff were great it’s sad to see that tight cost saving and perhaps management decisions are ruining this hotel, and this wasn’t reflected in the cost at all.

Room 123 smelled strongly of mould and chemicals. Staff were unhelpful and acted surprised, though it was clearly an ongoing issue. No real assistance was offered. Room 123 is a nightmare I even bought air freshener, to mask the smell but it did nothing. The fan was also useless, with almost no airflow even when standing right in front of it. It was an absolute nightmare to stay in that room! Disgusting and run down! If you’re staying during summer, bring your own fan and thank me later

Premier Inns in general need to improve and St Austell is no exception. It's 2026 and the closest plug socket is the other side of the room to the bed so if you want to charge a device it's not close. The free WiFi is still 1mb whereas the 4g mobile Internet is ~50mb. The particular room I was in was stifling, a fan was on upon my arrival with the window wide open (as much as the security catches will allow). At 7am my room was showing 27⁰C. I use Premier Inn's for work as they are a preferred partner, even though I will be returning to St Austell frequently this will be the last time I use Premier Inn and would prefer to use a competitor slightly further away if it means a much more comfortably stay. Edit: headed to breakfast at the attached restaurant. Staff were disinterested at the welcome, asked room number and allergies and then just said 'sort yourself out'. No direction to tables or mention of sit where you would like followed by where the food is. This may be because I'm on my own as the welcome to another couple was much warmer, or was in the middle of something but wasn't overly welcoming. Having been to 30-40 Premier Inns across the country this is probably the worst experience I've had and going forward will probably not choose Premier Inn at all.
